I never ignore anyone on a moderated forum. Mods keep out the worst cases so it's usually not an issue, and I'd always worry that I was just ignoring people to avoid seeing opinions that don't match my own; using ignore always struck me as a bit masturbatory. And telling on the forum that you ignore somebody I read as an attack on the person. You are saying that this person cannot write anything interesting. I think the rule here is that you ignore people silently and if it is not it should be.

I think play for free games are good in general but it really depends on how the publisher/developer ends up making money from it. If they make their cash from cosmetic items then it's fine, but as soon as you start having to purchase 'content' that is integral to the experience of the game then I would immediatley drop it.

Yes the OP mentioned a game but all creation is text, ebooks. In the age passed, every printed text was required to be placed into a library for the common good, does the advent of the digital erase this need of the commons? Maybe it is time for a new thread. |

It was originally released in 2004 or so and is still very popular so they kept updating it. A few years ago they decided to add an in-game store which allowed players to purchase items like weapons, hats, misc stuff and it brought them a new influx of money well after the 'expiration' of the game bought off store shelves. They turned it into a free to play game and just made the money off the in-game store which should be pretty lucrative as some of the ' unusual hats ' that the characters can wear in game sell on forums for up to THOUSANDS in real money. ![]() |

It's not that easy. The devs(Mindtrap) and game have a bit of background. This game was released as a paid app with In-App-Purchase (IAP). While most people don't have an issue with that they do when the company charges a fee for an IAP game. Granted $1 isn't much but it's still the principal and expectation. A similar experience happened with the Duke Nukem port where the devs charged a fee for the product then inserted ads in the paid version.
With both cases the users hammered the products in the review/rating and in both cases the devs responded. In my eyes both devs did the right thing. Duke Nukem ads where removed and Mind trap made the game free. The problem was the folks that paid $1 lost their shirts and home forking up that $1 for the game and they raised hell. My opinion is that Mindtrap tried to save face and explained their move. They possibly told a half truth in their PR and again suffered a backlash. Maybe there is some truth to Mindtrap claim but I will say this, their two other aps in the market, that don't have IAP, are still for sale(not free) and are still top sellers. Mindtrap apparently is doing the right thing and giving the early adopters an extra package. |

In other cases they are just a bunch of freeloaders just like you. There's no granted right for free entertainment. If you want fun for free go playing with your private parts. If you have too much leisure time use it for working and spend the money gained on for paid entertainment. Easy, eh? |
