Looks like Kobo needs to do some updating on their website AND You Tube !
For my wife's KT, what we have been doing is to delete the upgrade files from her KT before ejecting the KT. That is, before you eject but after the books have synchronized, open the Kobo's online storage and delete the upgrade folder and the KoboRoot.tgz and manifest.md5sum files. You should then be able to eject the KT and enjoy reading with your old firmware. We also never turn on her KT's wifi to keep it from updating over the air.

So what do you call KF8 having a large line height and also ignoring line-height in CSS? I'd call that TWO major bugs. This effects two different Kindle models.

Jerome, Three Men on the Bummel) where I replaced the cover image, redid the chapter breaks, changed the image alignment and generated a TOC caused a crash where I had to do a restore to get my KT working again. Admittedly, I did this out of curiosity as to what a fairly major change in a book would do so was expecting a crash and burn but not the extent to which it happened.
Yes, I found that with the 2.0.0 firmware. I played around with this for a while and could not work out how the KT was deciding the file had changed. There are some entries in the database for each book, but they don't seem to record anything that could be used. And fiddling with them didn't trigger the delete. In any case, 2.0.2 fixed this and I am using it with no problems.

The more major changes problem was at least partly there with 1.9.17. I managed to crash the KT a few times when I edited the book I was reading. In each case I changed the file structure. I was able to just had to delete the book and then load it again. I haven't tried this with 2.0.2, but I have reloaded books that have had extra chapters added. These were downloaded books that I am reading as the they are written. 2.0.2 handles these OK, but the extra chapters don't get added to the database. That means you can't navigate to them except by continuing on from the last chapter. I do have a way to add them to the database without losing my place.

Just seeing if I can attach my font test file...

if it is attached to this message, the file should be a single page display for medium to small font sizes. The first 4 lines check the regular, italic, bold and bold italic font variants while the next five lines test the font's ability to display macron and breve diacriticals. On my KT, the only usable font that will display the macron-Y and macron-AE ligature is the Charis SIL font.

For what it's worth, when I tried Liz Castro's embed.epub file from her http://www.pigsgourdsandwikis.com website for April, 2011, the handwriting font shows up happily enough for the replica of her grandmother's letter with 2.0.2.

Full URL: http://www.pigsgourdsandwikis.com/20...phone-and.html

All I need to do now is to remember why I downloaded the file last year though vague memories suggests that it was part of testing fonts on a Kobo WiFi.

Thanks for the tip. If 2.0.0c proves too much, I'll take this approach.

I was hoping to simply delete the V2 update files from the KT before it was allowed to next reboot, but I found that, before the Kobo Desktop app "finished" the update download (as indicated by the progress bar), the KT had actually been dismounted as a R/W drive on my desktop host computer (!) and I couldn't get in there to delete the darn update files.

I'm living with 2.0.0c happily as long as I don't switch books too often.

Yes, the sluggish page-turning is noticeable. I still don't think it's a deal-breaker, but it is definitely (regrettably) noticeable. However, I find that the font-weight manipulations available in 2.0.0 are a great plus and if all that recalculating is why it takes so long now to draw a page, so be it.

Perhaps in the future, though, they could cache a page ahead in the background? That would be awesome.

Here is a file you can test. It has Charis SIL (not the enhanced version) embedded and the font-family to turn on the font is in the body style.

So I have a question is the system still using the crippling SQL book logging to load content? I gave up on my KT about a year ago because none of my books or PDF datasheets would load.

The SQL is not crippling; all Kobo does it to scan the books (at least epubs) when added and add each chapter to the database.

It's been a while since I've looked at any updates to the KT, I went back to 1.9.17 after all the issues with MicsoSD card loaded epubs being so slow to page turn and other issues.

Is there a fixed version of 2.0 now? or are they still testing it?

Every time I had loaded my datasheets library 16gb SD class 10 on my KT the SQL file would cause bloat and the way the cover image files were generated would cause bloat on the internal memory. So I made a choice either not use the internal memory because the remaining 1.6 GB internal memory was full of multiple image files and a bloated SQL file, with multiple entries I would add this was on 1.9.10 - .17. I have since upgraded the internal memory to 16gb class 10 to avoid the problem. My warranty expired last month anyway so no loss if anything happened. I am seeing a huge performance gain with the new card.

I have updated to version 2.0 and a lot of the issues I had seems to be corrected. But I am still having issue with the content processing and the lack of an error trap that traverses the error prone or corrupt files. So I am unable to see how much space will be taken up by my library of datasheets.

I had placed the device on the shelf for a long time because of all my issues, and only kept a handful of books on it which seemed to be the most agreeable for the KT to load.

Does anyone know what PDF versions are compatible with KT? I have done everything from convert the files, acquired new copies, etc and for some PDF's there is no solution.

I hope this is sorted soon, I'm rather frustrated by slow page turns on my sideloaded epubs. I occasionally check for updates in case Kobo have released a new firmware version.

I would like Kobo to consider being 'desktop free' like the iPhone. I don't have a PC here so using a web browser to download an earlier firmware version as a temporary fix is out of the question.

I'm also having to reboot the phone if I want to use wireless to check for firmware updates. And when I do use wireless the battery is used far more quickly, hence why I keep wireless switched off when I don't need it.

Please Kobo, make this device one that I'm proud of owning once more!

I love the update! Shelves are amazing

Unfortunately I can no longer sync over wifi since updating. I deleted and re-added my wifi info. The bookmark updates, and that syncs over to my iphone. Also I can browse purchases. No sync though "Network Error".

Strange. Has anyone else seen this?

I just tried my first wifi sync on my KT (ver 2.0.0) -- I was also booting up my Macbook laptop at the same time. The KT logged in to the wifi after I typed the wifi password, and proceeded to sync. Then my Mac, which I had powered on after the KT, popped up a message that another device was using the IP address of this Mac. Is that supposed to happen? i.e., is the KT supposed to have its own IP address? perhaps that is why people have trouble, if their IP address is already in use when the KT is trying to log in to the wifi? I am no expert...

My KT did not automatically upgrade the firmware to 2.0.2, which is what I thought would happen. Isn't 2.0.2 the latest firmware level for Japan? How can I get it to upgrade? Do I have to open Kobo Desktop? I did that yesterday, and connected with the USB cable, but it didn't upgrade then either. I am in Japan, so I figured it would upgrade.

I downloaded a free Japanese book over the wifi to see what would happen. It came in ok, and I opened it and changed the font to Ryumin, and it looks fine. Took a minute to figure out that I had to tap on the left side of the page to turn the pages
Now to practice reading right to left and up and down....
