I'm thinking about adding a Kindle to my collection
I want to take advantage of the great deals Amazon has so I think I'll get a Kindle. I like e-ink screens. I don't want to spend much as I feel like I've invested too much into e-readers already (though the Nook Tablet is my daughter's.) I'm trying to decide between the cheap $79 Kindle and the $99 Kindle Touch. Is it worth the extra $20?
Thanks! I should add that I have gotten a ton of Kindle e-books to read on my iPad or computer, but I don't like to read on backlit screens, so I haven't read many of them. I know there are great deals as I've taken advantage of them. It's more like I want to take full advantage of the deals. Having the books is only half the battle. Having them on a device I enjoy reading on is the other half. Last edited by NickyWithNook; 08-01-2012 at 09:10 PM. |

Yes, the Touch is VERY well worth the extra. Double the battery life, almost 3x the available storage, and the touch screen works beautifully.

Besides the features Harry mentioned, you also get X-Ray, speakers, headphone jack, and an audio player (audiobooks, text-to-speech, music).
The added features are well worth the extra $20. So if it's that great, then why do I have the $79 Kindle 4? Because I got it for $49 at Walmart. While the added features of the Touch are worth an extra $20, I don't think they're worth an extra $50. |

$79 - 40% = $47.40 ...that's less than half the cost of the $99 Kindle Touch. According to some in the thread, you can get a wall charger for an additional $2, and other Visa cards have also worked. If you don't have an Amazon Rewards Visa Card, they'll give you a $50 Amazon Gift Card instantly if you qualify and get it. Doing the math, the K4 is free or the KT is $49. Such a deal. Offer expires 15 Aug 2012 or while supplies last. |

Remember, you're not locked into purchases from only Amazon. You can get compatible books from other stores; not to mention all the places you can get free books. Also, you can check out library books on your Kindle if your library uses OverDrive. Happy reading; and welcome to the Kindle Klub ![]() |

I've gotten library books for my nook, but it's a pain to have to sideload them. And I've gotten Kindle library books for my iPad, but I don't like to read books on my iPad much, so that isn't great either. It will be much easier to read the library books now. Easy to get AND easy to read, not one or the other.

Yeah, the nice thing about library books on a Kindle is that you don't need to sideload them. They transfer just as easily as purchased books - wirelessly. Great feature.
