They did that to mine too. I will renew for the $25 plan. It's the only way with my dinky phone I can take music with me. Hubby and I share the account so it's both our music. He just bought $270 in textbooks and Amazon gave us $5 in mp3 credits. This month there is 1000+ $5 albums so perfect timing!

Yeah, a dinky phone is my issue, too. I'll probably pay the $25.

It is funny you should mention the $5 albums. I just got one, The Fear of Missing Out by thenewO2, Dhani Harrison's (the son of George) band. It is quite good.

I actually got 3 albums on my wishlist for $2.99 each the other week (an Iron & Wine album and 2 Fleet Foxes albums).

Two things:
  • All songs purchased from Amazon don't count toward the 250 song limit
  • Google's cloud lets you import 20,000 songs for free

Google can't be shared between two phones unless they are both using the same google account and we're not. He has his and I have mine but we can share Amazon's stuff which is why I prefer using them. Also I can't use Google on my Kindle Fire so Amazon Cloud is really my best choice and $25 a year is relatively cheap.

250 isn't alot of songs. I am already half way there. I deleted my Xmas music or I would be really over the limit.

There's nothing stopping you from uploading your songs into both Google accounts and you can listen via your phone.

Where did you get the Christmas music?

Hey, Tubemonkey, does Google play via their cloud or would I have to dowload the music to my devices? It'll be a pain to transfer, especially since Amazon doesn't have a "select all songs" option for download (I'll have to download them, them upload them to Google if I do that).

Too much work. I have to download the music then reupload it twice. Besides he wouldn't give me his password to his google account. He's very weird like that. Amazon is more convenient and I save bandwidth which is precious now he has Netflix and Hulu Plus.

I've been collecting Christmas music since I was a teenager. It started out as just buying a CD here and there and somehow grew into this huge monster collection. Last Christmas I loaded several Albums to the Cloud. I didn't even get to listen to half of them. I will have a new strategy this year. I try to rotate the albums each year so I will have listened to them all by the time I am 90.

It plays from the cloud. Download the Google Play Music app to your device.

As to getting your songs to their cloud, you'll need to upload them from your computer after downloading Music Manager. I haven't done this, because I don't store my music in the cloud.

Upload music files from your computer to Google Play
  • Keep up to 20,000 songs in Google Play for free
  • Add your collection from iTunes, Windows Media Player, or folders to Google Play
  • Listen on the web or your mobile devices without the hassle of wires or syncing

Thanks. *Sigh* If I had known Amazon was going to do this, I would've gone to Google Play from iTunes and not the Amazon Clould Player. I know it is small in the great scheme of things but it was a chore to get everything into the Amazon cloud and now I may end up doing it again just a few months later.

I say save yourself the hassle and just pay $25 for smallest premium plan for a year. I've enjoyed my free year with them having unlimited space for awhile so I don't have a problem renewing.

Daunting; isn't it? I don't envy you. That's why I listen to Pandora; it's much easier.

Now that Amazon has thrown the gauntlet down, expect moves from Apple and Google sometime soon. What they'll do is anyone's guess.

Yeah, I have a month to decide because they give you premium free for a month, apparently. It isn't bad, though not free. I just hope they don't keep raising it.

Amazon is pretty competitive. So I see it getting better once you're a paid subscriber. Amazon has seldom let me down.

This is besides hard drives of various kinds.

I now have
(2) 32GB Kingston Flash Drives
(1) 8GB Kingston Flash Drive
oodles and oodles of 2GB SanDisk (my old standard) Flash Drives

I have decided to go with Kingston because it is smaller (sticks up less than the SanDisk) when it is inserted into the USB port.

I have so many SDs and xDs that I am not sure how many. A bunch of devices use them. Cameras, DVR, computers, tablets, GPS units, phones, etc. The largest is 16GB, the smallest is maybe 125MB. I haven't needed 32 or 64GB yet.

I can put anything on these memory devices I want, and go anywhere in the world, including out in the areas of the US and Canada without cell service and certainly no WiFi. I can go out into and over the ocean or a great lake or a desert or above a mountain beyond any CLOUD'S reach.

Yeah, I guess I could go with a Satellite phone, but that is really expensive. I do have a SPOT though for "that day" when the rescuer needs rescuing.

And if I desire, I have access to a relative's and a friends Web Site for free storage and I do store certain encrypted strategic info there (including tax returns) for emergencies in case I have a house fire, and all vessels and aircraft dive into the ocean and I wake up in a hospital or the flood or hurricane wipe out everything and I need my insurance info, etc.

I am not going to pay rent to cranky landlords who can change their terms as they will.
Now the free stuff, I will use, but carefully.

They never told me it was a year - I bought an album and they said, 'hey, here's 20 GB storage!". Then a few months later they said, "hey, here's unlimited storage for music!"

They never said anything about 'this is only temporary' which is why I'm disgruntled.

I have all my music saved to an external hard drive at home, so I'll be uploading it to Google Music.

In the meantime, it's back to eMusic for all my music purchases.

Of course I'll still buy 'stuff' from Amazon (I live in a small town, I don't have much choice), but they've lost me as a music customer.
