Right!

Let me just turn up the volume onthe Best of Abba soundtrack in your auditory control module!

Now you just sit and think about your cheekiness for a while, Missy! I'll be back after your brains turn to jello.

Oprah has been a fan of ebooks forever. I remember many years ago (in tech years eons ago ;-) ) she was all gaga over the Rocket (I think that's what it was called, from RCA?) I don't watch Oprah much, maybe once a year, but I'd bet she has featured most of the main ebook players over the years.

The 125,000 books mentioned is in reference to the number of titles available on the Kindle store at Amazon. That number is actually over 140,000 now. Of course we all know Amazon is only one source of books as this site is a great example of an alternate source. So yes you can access way more than than 140,000 books right from a Kindle if you're in a Sprint cell coverage area. You don't need them to be physically on the device to have access to them.

Well, so much for that magazine's cred ... not that I ever read it. I mean, really, she's a lovely lady, but I couldn't give a diseased rat's patootie about what she likes or doesn't like.
Oh, I think the 'access to 125k' is how many are available through amazon, not how many you can store on the Kindle. The price being wrong is MUCH worse, since even though the difference is only 50 dollars, 349 and 399 trigger completely different reactions in most people in advertising.

The problem is the long lead time for print media. I'm sure is was accurate when they put the magazine layout together. Yet another reason to switch to emedia Oh and even your price above is wrong

Unfortunately, since they don't specify that the "access" is actually to an online bookstore, the average person reading that is going to think that means access to them on the device ... which is only true if you've got Whispernet up and running.

It's a typical ad blurblet with incomplete and/or erroneous information. Again, makes me not think much of the magazine.

You are correct it's 100% an ad blurblet not an original piece written for the magazine. That kind of thing is pretty typical of magazines these days.

You do have access to thousands of books on the device (assuming the Sprint connection) Why does it matter if they are on the device or if you have to dl them in a few seconds? Access is access. They don't have to be from Amazon and they don't even have to be for purchase. Of course that's not the intent of the "news item" mentinoed but that is the fortunate reality. That blurb is way too short to go into any detail of where and how. Imo "access" is correct and not even misleading. They don't say "pre-loaded for free on the device" that would be false. To me it's better than the "100 free books" that Sony offers as if it's something not available for free to anyone with any device.

Well, typical ad yes - but there's nothing factually incorrect about the statement! And the point is to pique interest - so that you look into the device at amazon itself and find out what the numbers really mean. I think the fact that they say the first chapters are free really implies that you don't *receive* 125k books on the Kindle.

Well, to me "access" means I can actually get those books anytime I want if I purchase the Kindle. I love my Kindle, but I cannot access 125,000 books anytime I want. So, I don't consider the statement to be correct.

Why can't you? Do you not have whispernet access where you live? Is Texas considerd part of the US?

But you do have access to that number of books. It might not be 'immediate' or 'unlimited' access, but the ad doesn't promise either of those things.

Do you really believe that Whispernet extends across ALL of the United States?? Have you looked at the access map recently??

Ohhhh .... so in your scheme of things, if I live in an area of the US, with no access at all, then that's still access??

Tell me that you are in advertizing.

Heh, I think we're just going to have to disagree on this. Because I don't think that phrasing even implies using whispernet to download it. As long as you have access to *either* whispernet or to a computer with internet access, you have access to the 125k books.
