I am alone with Lucas today. It is kind of weird not having other people around. My baby Bjorne arrives tomorrow which will make life so much easier. At least I'll be able to o stuff around the house more easily. Like make lunch and eat.

Let me assure you, Stichawl, that it is perfectly acceptable to drink a bit of coffee occasionally. After all, I still enjoy Peet's Major Dickason's as a morning starter sometimes. But my serious drinking is saved for tea, or single malt.

![]() When it's cold outside I've got the month of May. I guess you'd say What can make me feel this way? My tea (my tea, my tea) Talkin' 'bout my tea (my tea). I've got so much honey the bees envy me. I've got a sweeter song than the birds in the trees. I guess you'd say What can make me feel this way? My tea (my tea, my tea) Talkin' 'bout my tea (my tea ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4P1x7...eature=related ) I will be strong... Good morning, everyone! Twining's "Prince of Wales" tea in my cup, and I have no craving at all for coffee... Just mild curiosity. Honestly... But am I curious about having it with milk and sugar, black, with crystal brown sugar as is popular here, or.... NNNNNOOOOO! I will be strong! Get thee from me, Juan Valdez! Quote:

![]() ![]() Not TKD, through I fought a 3rd degree BB TKD last night. Yes I won. ![]() My family is in a MMA style called American Freestyle Karate. As for kicking in the head, it completely depends on the situation. For the most part we only kick head level because it is fun and in point matches you get more points for that then any other hit. ![]() In self defense, we aim for more effective targets in taking someone down. Knees, ribs, throat, solar plexus, etc. Our goal is to end the fit in one, maybe 2 hits. A kick to the head would easily drop a man, but its a riskier move due to the smaller harder to hit target. Like I said the goal is to end the fight fast and there are lots of options open depending on the situation. As for the TKD people, the reason they kick so high is that originally it was fighting style of peasants, and the kicks were designed to hit men on horse back. Today you could think of men on motorcycles as good targets for the style. What it really comes down to is that my family lives in a safe area so it is highly unlikely we will ever use this stuff for real. It is more of a fun way to exercise as a family. I began my studies with Ed Parker in California in '69... I was still teaching when I left the States to move to Asia. Never a kick higher than the waist, and never EVER a spinning rear kick! I eventually switched to T'ai Chi. Less wear and tear on old bod.
Now I drink rum and remember the good old days coming home from the dojo and my wife standing there shaking her head wondering 'why?' Stitchawl |

My wife and son come with me, and all three of us are champion tournament fighters. ![]() In point fighting - the fancier the move the more points you get. In survival fighting, speed and focus are paramount. So again, "never" never applies, its always what are you doing and why. A reverse jump spin wheel kick - looks freaking cool, but if we met at a bar you and did not like the way I looked, I would not even consider using it. Collapse your windpipe with an inner ridge hand to your throat, sure. Different use case, dif tool pulled out. That being said... Last night the TKD guy came at me with lots of kicks, switching legs. I baited him backwards a few steps then firmly planed a punch to the nose. He probably threw 10 or more kicks, never landed one. I threw one punch and landed. He did not try that again. ![]() Also in my previous school there was a guy named Chris. He was attacked one night. A guy came at him with a shovel. Chris met the guys charge with a step through jump side kick to the target's chest. That ended the fight, with the target disabled, and Chris walking away. Different tools, different situations. ![]() |

Long ago memories of Karate studies, for a couple of years in the 60's. Was fun, and I was in great shape because of it. But then I moved, and caught a bad case of "life", and never went further.
