I did a factory reset, reinstalled 2.0.0, and transferred books onto it. Now it works OK-ish, only failed once since 2 days ago, and I can now create shelves.

Anyone else had this kind of trouble with 2.0.0?

The issue with creating shelves is common; next time though you could try the new Sign Out option located under Settings | Account.

This wipes out the settings and any kepub format material; you then just need to redo a the Kobo Desktop setup / ADE authorization process.

If someone could help me, I just updated my kobotouch and all goes well as long as I don't want to insert my sd card (that was working well till now). The sideloaded book I was reading is on my sd card. It begin's to process the content, and at 50% stops and the reboots and so on again and again. I can't remember how to make a factory reset, as I can't see what else I can do...

Edit : I found how to make a factory reset, it's processing. Thank you

It was a bit hard, I had to remove even the kobo app on my destop, and after all was reset, it keeps to happen again and again : "processing the content" then the small weel stops, the Kobo shuts off and restarts, and again "processing the content", without end. Do you know where I can get the mean to downgrade to preceding version of the firmware ? As it is, my Kobo is useless, it just doesn't work. I can't use it with my sd card that worked well till the upgrade. I'd like to keep on reading just as I did before, if not being able to upgrade.

Previous firmwares can be found here, you'll probably want the 1.9.17.b

If I remember correctly, Delima is one of the fonts that does NOT have a full set of diacritical marks. That could explain the square in this instance. You will also get squares if the text has unicode ligatures that are not included in the font set.

The fact that setting the Kobo to use the Document Default does not result in boxes and Delima does would tend to support the idea that the embedded fonts are being recognized. I would hope that if someone goes to the trouble to embed a font, they they would make sure that the font set they are using has everything they need.

This is (educated) guess work not anything I know for sure.

I knew that! (but thanks for the reminder).

Now with luck I will get a test file from Jon....

I thank you very much and keep the URL in my favourite ones. At last, I formated my SD card and put back some books on it and it works. In the morning, I'll try to put them all back. I'll let you know if it worked

So glad to have found this forum as the comments on the Kobo Facebook page mostly deal with issues faced by Australian and UK users. Will stay away from this update until all issues have been ironed out as I usually get very unlucky with software updates.

On a side note I saw some people having problems with the way covers are displayed for side-loaded books; on here though there's an actual explanation on how to edit the epub code to solve the issue. However, before finding this forum I accidentally discovered a simpler solution - convert epub file into mobi and then send the file to the Kobo (all using Calibre). That does the trick

2.0.0 not ALL doom and gloom.

My KT did a factory reset a couple of days ago to 1.9.11 because I was fumbling after a browser crash and (I believe) kept the front button pressed too long. Watched everything go down the tubes.

I didn't want to go to 2.0.0, so I installed 1.9.17 firmware and rebooted, but could not, despite all the very helpful messages and hints here, get through the Kobo Desktop drama (I truly hate that software) without 2.0.0c (r41166, 7/12/12) finally ending up on my KT and taking it over.

I'm 100% sideloaded ePubs but I don't use an SD card, so perhaps that's why my page-turning performance isn't quite as bad as I was expecting? (based on posted experiences).

It's definitely slower than 1.9.17 was on page turns, but the other added features make it a palatable tradeoff (IMHO). BUT... selecting a chapter from the ToC? Positively glacial. Just awful. I guess the other disclaimer to make is that I only had my KT for a couple of weeks when it "spontaneously" reset, so I did not have a chance to become so enamored of the features Kobo blew away.

(Edit: forgot to mention that opening the library and navigating "Books" - again, all sideloaded ePubs - is a painfully slow activity. So 2.0.0 has definitely introduced some performance issues for sideloaded ePub, even though I see all my covers, and page-turning isn't so bad. Hope that gets fixed...)

Just discovered a new feature in 2.0.0 firmware.

Swipeing down the page brings up the mode where you can select text for highlighting or annotation.

Much simpler that selecting a word, getting the definition, closing the definition box, and then selecting the text.

Best way to avoid updating to 2.0 (if a windows user) when you don't want to but have to register a previous firmware. Run the Kobo Desktop App. Register the Kobo and once it starts to download the "upgrade" press the keys alt+ctrl+del --> select Task Manager --> select the Processes tab --> find and select Kobo.exe --> press the button End Process. The Kobo will be registered but the Desktop App will not have had enough time to download the update and without the update downloaded to your Kobo your Kobo won't update. Of course you will not be able to use the Desktop App to load your books without it trying to update your Kobo but if you sideload then that isn't an issue.

Cool.

I had that happen accidentally (coming up of the menu) and didn't know how that came to pass. So it's not a bug, it's a feature - for real.

If they would now implement "touch anywhere to go forward, swipe to go back, swipe upwards to open book menu", that would be cool. Since swiping down to open one menu works, that should be possible, too. (Dreaming, again. )

Ah, lack of clarity on my part. I was referring to my previous wish expressed in #488 of this thread: "Ideally I'd like a digital clock display as a permanent feature on the top-right of the home page and back to one tap away whilst reading."

Regardless, your interpretation is a significant improvement on the default Kobo Home screen
