For the cover thing, I just close and re-open the same book. That way the previous book is also the current book and the right cover shows.

Just Blank Space
This new update makes me afraid to use my Touch.
For some time, whenever I turned on my Touch, I got the last update again, followed by the "welcome" screen as if my Touch was new (none of my books disappeared, fortunately). Whenever that happened, something else went goofy. First, all books on the SD card appeared as generic book icons rather than cover pictures. Next, stuff I'd converted from other formats through Calibre appeared as generic icons, then epub books from other sites appeared as icons. When I sideloaded a Kobo book I'd mistakenly deleted appeared as just an icon, I stopped turning my Touch off & just put it into sleep mode. Last night I synced a few new Kobo books through the desktop app, & got 2.0 update. Now all the books that had appeared as icons are just blank space. The home page with the books I'm reading (the carousel, I think) had all been icons. That was really frustrating as I had to open & close two or more before I found what I wanted to read. Now I have a blank home page & don't even know where on the screen to touch. I don't know what to do. I had unsuccessfully tried to cure the problems with soft resets. I've been reluctant to do a factory reset because the mere thought of reloading 1300+ ebooks makes my eyes cross. I emailed kobo help desk this morning & I'm waiting for an answer. In the meantime, I've gone back to reading 'hard copies'. Last edited by Jewitch; 07-26-2012 at 12:53 PM. |

1.9.17 downgrade = font weirdness
Quote:
1. Factory reset (annoying yes) skipping set up 2. Install and upgrade via zip file to the 1.9.17 firmware 3. Connect to kobo desktop to register, the 2.0 upgrade will download automatically, but before ejecting the kobo delete the upgrade files from the .kobo folder (upgrade folder, .tgz zip file and manifest file) 4. Eject kobo and 1.9.17 will remain (with normal menu fonts) and the device will be registered and able to have books added My guess is going back from 2.0 was the issue with the fonts, but not really sure, hope that helps. |

Attached find some screen shots. The first two images (49 and 50) show the Document Default; the next two (51 and 52) show Delima. Not sure you can see but on the second Delima shot, the 5th line Code:
Az öreg ekkor megfordult és rideg, fürkésző tekintettel nézett rájuk. |

Hmm, so I did not use my KT for quite a while and did not read here either so I missed the fw-update until today. Having worked my way through this thread I came to the conclusion to avoid the update in any way. The only feature I might like is the new dictionary-lookup but this does not seem to work for all languages as I read here. Since I only use sideloaded ePubs and very much like some sideloaded fonts the font-issue and slow pageturn are absolute no-gos. Also I would miss the options for customization I have with the plugin now. The only thing I dislike about the 1.9.17 with plugin is the slim topmargin, but that only occurs in some books.
Is there a screenshot of the new home-page somewhere? I am curious how it looks with 2.0 |

Here is a screenshot of the home page for 2.0.0.
It's a nice improvement on 1.9.17 |

... or a major downgrade, depending on your priorities and the way you use your device. I don't want to use my Kobo to "Discover!" or "Wishlist!" anything, but I do want my Shortlist at my fingertips.

Yeah, true. It's an improvement in the area less of screen clutter, and not have recommendations forced down your throat on the home page.

The Kindle auto-updates its firmware. But it seems to be pretty much free of significant bugs. I don't recall any update which introduce a real bug, although there's been the odd thing that some people didn't like.

I only say this because: a) Clearly your KT has working wifi otherwise you wouldn't be able to see the presence of *any* other networks. b) I once had a similar issue on a laptop that used an intel wireless chipset that categorically refused to connect to any "available" network including my own. Yet when I manually entered all that data (as per connecting to a hidden SSID) - boomshanka. (This problem was permanently rectified when I binned the intel and changed to a card with an atheros chipset - a choice you don't have with the KT). |
