Well I'll just try to think about stuff more before I post something . Anyways I've been reading up on the kindle and am just trying learn more. Hopefully someday I'll be able to contribute somthings useful.

Anyway, I guess that at least having something is better than not having anything at all, so I quickly wrote something user-friendly. It's not beautiful, and the code is quick and dirty, but it works. Tested and working on 5.1.0 (note: the extractions may take quite some time, i.e., more than 10 minutes for the main partition).

Requirements:

• Jailbreak
• Developer certificates
• Kindlet Jailbreak

Installation: unzip the attachment, then copy the .azw2 to the documents folder of the device, then run it. It will produce the following files on the device:

• mmcblk0p1.img.gz : main partition image
• mmcblk0p2.img.gz : diags partition image
• main_kernel.img and diags_kernel.img: kernels

Again, I know that this is not the best solution, but maybe it will finally convince someone with 5.1.1 firmware to make those images available to us.

Thanks for the reminder ixtab. I will order a couple of KTs for friends and family next week, and if they come with 5.1.1 preinstalled I will gladly follow your instructions. We need to collaborate with you after the great effort you are doing for all of us.

This version supports Firmware 5.1.1 (and hopefully other future versions as well).

Please read the notes in the first post if you are upgrading from an earlier version.

hopefully they have broken the web jailbreak. If this update would have broken a lot of more things the jbpatcher would probably not work on 5.1.2, but it does, as reported by wolftail

A little bit off topic:

How difficult would it be to support path-browsing in main menu (file selection) or at least a recursive collection structure? At the moment it is really hard to separate the files (for example university courses mixed with novel categories etc.) and without actually knowing anything about KT-OS I hope that it is possible through class-patches.

Of course ideas for naming conventions for the collections are also welcome!

JBPatch is awesome btw. Modifying the margins raises pdf-experience to a whole new level!

Still one month and a half to go till the last exam - maybe I can start getting into Kindle-development then.

OK, so here's another small update.

This is mostly a cosmetic fix to version 2.1.0, there are no functional changes to the JBPatch core.

This release also includes an updated version of the password patch. As aditya3089 pointed out in a PM, the password protection previously wasn't effective if the "Go To..." item was selected on the details screen (@aditya: thanks for the hint!) This is fixed now.

It's not strictly necessary to update to this version - if you're using the password patch, you could also just update the patch and keep using 2.1.0.

Oh BTW, I just noticed that password-protection also works for collections (FW 5.1.2)!

In principle, it is possible - pretty much everything is possible, as long as it concerns the Java parts of the Kindle. But it would require a major effort, because one would essentially have to rewrite the entire home screen. And with the introduction of aggressive code obfuscation with firmware 5.1.*, it has become more difficult by another order of magnitude. Say "thank you, Amazon".

So, it's not going to happen anytime soon, if ever (at least not from my side). Your best bet is to use collections, the filters, and the search box. Sorry.
