I read your Subject line and was thinking entirely different.

Wouldn't those colorful Illuminations lose a lot when shown in e-ink

I disagree. I like that it is one less thing I have to remember to pack and get batteries/charge.

I use this light, it came with my case and slips into the back. It works great. No glare or hotspots (The light spots in this pic are from my camera's flash).

Yes I have one similar working with LED, my battery ran out a couple of weeks ago after (roughly 2/3 hrs a day) 9 months. Battery was less than a £1.

Recommend it! I often wake in the middle of the night and I reach out for my Kindle until I drift off to sleep again. It hasn't (so far) bothered my husband/sleeping partner!

My only fear is that I will nod off to sleep and drop my Kindle on the tiled bedroom floor and smash it - so I place a pillow on the floor next to my bed.

That's one significant benefit of the Kindle lighted cover. If you do fall asleep, the light goes out when the Kindle goes into sleep mode. I had a lighted cover for my Kindle 3, and found that it worked very well indeed.

Tried Mr Ploppy's suggestion and got one from the pound shop...I thought ..well if its no good then I can always use it for something else and I havn't wasted a lot of money, I am quite impressed with it, it is an 'Electroinc Book Reading Lamp' by Signalex and it is just fine, bendy light I can put anywhere on the ereader and it illuminates all of the page, takes two cr2032 batteries, be interesting to find out how long they last.

The trick about using a book light on flights is angling the light so you avoid glare but also avoid shining it onto someone nearby. Not the easiest trick with the single LED style lights I've tried (e.g. Sony's case-lights).

I have a panel book light, similar to this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LED-LIGHT-...item2c6180047c

Works very well, especially on plane journeys, as the light is very localized. Uses AAA batteries, which seem to last a long time. It's not really suitable for holding in one hand, though.

My Sony cover built in light is pretty good. Easy to line up. Certainly good enough to read with on the balcony. But... I prefer an overhead light for reading in bed.

With other ereaders I have used dollar store clip on lights and found them better than reading with the airplane lights. I doubt there is the perfect light for what I would be willing to pay, but as long as you can aim them accurately and they are light and stable, most fade into the background after the first page or so.

Lights

Hi,
Thats an interesting light Luvreading, but a bit bulky, this little one from the £shop can be clipped on the side nearest someone else on the plane so I'm hoping will shine away from them.
Its a pity they don't make mini clip-on lights that clip on eyeglasses.....

Also, if you fall asleep while reading, the light automatically turns off when the kindle shuts down. No more waking up in the morning with your clip-on light still on.

Planes generally have pretty reasonable directional overhead lights for reading at night. But you haven't answered the question that I asked earlier in the thread: what light source do you currently use when you read books in bed?

Yes, it's really only suitable if you have something to rest the ereader on. I have one of those little ones as well, which is useful for reading in bed, but it would be nice to have a slightly longer pool of light from them.

True, but try leaving the light on during a night flight and see how long it takes you to get complaints! The problem with the overhead lights is that they're too strong and not very localised, so it is quite disturbing not just for the person next to you, but those in front and behind as well.

I carry my little Mighty Bright Travel-flex everywhere I go.

One little AAA battery, fits easily in my purse, nearly weightless, and Mighty Bright has by far the best lenses of all the book lights I've tried.

I've got one I've used and abused for 2 years, and it's still good as new.

PS. It comes in many different colors and varies by price, anywhere from $8-$12, so shop around.

To answer your question HarryT I used to use a head light but feel that might look a bit silly on a plane...so the book light should fit all of my reading modes.
Will give this little one bendy one a trial, it seems to be ok at the moment, quite impressive for a £.
Ken
ps. and before you ask, my bedside light and table isn't close enough for reading, especially with my 68 year old eyesight...
