Might just be me, but 2.0.2 seems to have fixed some of the font rendering issues, particularly with Charis SIL.

I want to know the same thing in a reversed way.
![]() I'm in Japan and just bought a Kobo Touch from Rakuten. Is it the same hardware as those sold in Canada/US/Europe? On my KT, I see a Rakuten logo just below the kobo logo on the front top and a Japanese Wi-Fi certification number on the bottom edge, so I guess this hardware is dedicated for Japanese market, but it doesn't mean there are some differences inside. |

Just gave a try to the 2.0.2 update so a couple of notes.
Georgia now has the diacritical marks back that disappeared in the 2.0.0 update pair. I tried powering off while reading a book and it did not disappear and show as unread. On the other hand, the Kobo Quick Tour showed as the first item on the carousel after a power on until I marked it as finished. Book covers seem to be working properly again. A factory reset is a bit slower now at processing my sideloaded books, still faster than 1.9.17 though. I was hoping to see the page rotation/whatever the heck else tool visible when you tap the center of the screen in the Quick Tour extended to all documents but that seems to be waiting for a future update. |

Looks like the book delete glitch is fixed (I'm using 2.0.0 first release).

Its my understanding that the hardware in all territories is the same. despite the technical specifications on www.kobobooks.com/touch_tech stating that the main processor is a Freescale iMX508 and that on kobo.rakuten.co.jp listing the processor as iMX507. It would appear from posts elsewhere that a number of recently purchased KTs outside of Japan comes equipped with iMX507. Firmware: As for the firmware that's installed on the device when initially purchased, I believe that the devices bought in Japan would have the <affiliate>. directory in the hidden <.kobo> diectory containing data that would display Rakuten branded splash, "sleep" and "powered off" screens. If its anything like the French affiliate branding from FNAC, these brandings may may be overridden by a user initiated Factory reset" (settings>Device Information>Factory Reset). This may be reverted however under certain induced reset conditions (ie when the device crashes and resets for some reason). In Japan, the initial firmware versions shipped were:v2.0.0 The updated firmware version would be v2.0.2 at present. The interface language may be changed at any time from: Settings>Language> Display fonts for content may be changed from: "Font/styles" menu" >Font Face> (Jaapnese fonts are "Ryumin" anf "Gothic MB101") Online Connection The main contentious issue may be your ability to connect to kobo.com's English language content from Japan. Refer to the posts here for details on this topic. There are however, a number of methods (side-loading books) to transfer books without using the purchase mechanism onboard the device or Kobo Desktop app. Last edited by kumaryu; 07-21-2012 at 08:29 AM. |

I tried to update to 2.0.2 and it didn't work. For a few hours it looked like I had a bricked Kobo.
Somehow I managed to trigger a factory reset by repeatedly holding home button and power button and pressing the pinhole button in the back again and again. After a few hours of working on my touch I'm back to 2.0.0 and will wait for an update that's "official for all"... Good thing is: All the shelves got safed by synchronising and all of the Kobo books were sorted back in automatically. Not the sideloaded books, though... But at least there's no need to create the shelves again. |

This time I even tried to hit all of them together when nothing worked... and eventually something triggered the factory reset. So it seems it doesn't hurt to try several combinations... |
