Kobo Touch metadata
I can't load my ebooks onto my Kobo touch with Calibre because they don't transfer, and it's the same with dragging and dropping, so I started using ADE which transfers the books, but the metadata is wrong.
I fixed the metadata in ADE before transferring, but despite that, the metadata is incorrect in my Kobo. Is there any way to fix this? The titles and authors are wrong and it's making me crazy ![]() |

Can you give us some hints as to what happens with calibre for instance? What errors are you getting? What version of calibre? Have you upgraded the touch to 2.0?

Try logging out and back into your account on the device - go into the gear menu, under settings/account. That rebuilds the database and seems to solve a lot of problems. Calibre might be an issue until it gets updated since I believe the database was changed, so that could be part of the Calibre issue.

It is important to run startup wizard setting Kobo Touch as your e-reader. I use Sony t1 reader and kobo readers. If I don't do this before connecting Sony PRS-T1 after using Kobo readers Calibre doesn't work right with the Sony reader. Calibre tells you what kind of reader you have connected but doesn't automatically make necessary changes.
What is the source of your books? KT probably is still more sensitive to some book formatting glitches than other e-readers. Try known good books to see if that works. |

The books are downloaded, which is probably why the metadata is messed up to begin with, just that I can't get the edits I make in ADE to reflect in my Kobo.
The problem with Calibre is that it says the books are added but they don't show up on the reader. Calibre is the latest version and so is the Kobo software. I don't know how to do setup wizard but I don't use any other devices. Logging in and out did not solve the problem. The weird thing is, when I go into ADE and look on my Kobo, the metadata is correct, but when I disconnect my Kobo, it is wrong. Last edited by tryp; 07-19-2012 at 12:47 PM. |

I'm not sure where you are looking on the Kobo to see Metadata...

Are looking at the metadata via the KT's interface? If so, this doesn't get updated. If you put an epub on the KT, disconnect it and let the KT find the epub, it adds it generates the cover image files and reads the metadata and puts it in the database. If you later connect the KT to your computer and replace the epub, the KT does not detect this and reprocess epub. So, it doesn't update the metadata in the library and hence won't display any changed details. If you want to do this, you need to delete the epub from the KT using the KTs menus. Then add the new version. This might have changed with the new firmware. A couple of things I have done suggest that the KT is processing new versions of the epubs. But, so far it has simply deleted all trace of the epub and not actually updated anything. With the changes I made to the epubs, this is sort of OK. I haven't tried just changing metadata to see what happens. If calibre is adding the books but the KT isn't seeing them, it might mean the epubs have a problem in them. You need to remove any that are not being seen by the KT and then add them one at a time (add to KT, disconnect and look for it in the KTs library). If one doesn't get added, then there is something wrong with the structure of the epub. |
