I just finished Stone Spring by Stephen Baxter. It's the first book in a alternate history trilogy. It's a decent look back at a "might have been" in North-West Europe in prehistoric times. It has the feel of Baxter's sweeping, epic storytelling, but while it's entertaining it's not incredible.
I'm going to the library tomorrow to pick up a *paper* ![]() Last edited by carld; 07-19-2012 at 03:05 PM. |

Reply: Hey!! Let's get some action going! What are we reading?
I am reading World War Z which reminds us of our past mistakes and the vulnerability of the human race, it also serves as a reminder that the only true difference between us and the enemy is the human factor. World War Z also warns us not to let our guard down, to be ever vigilant, and to learn from the mistakes made in the past.

The Zombies will have to wait a bit longer. I mis-placed my Cybook (now found again), so I started another of the Gideon Oliver mysteries by Aaron Elkins instead.

Just started Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy, one I've been promising myself I would get to for a while.

Finished Dana Stabenow's Midnight Come Again. I really enjoy the Kate Shugak books, and this one is a good one. I skipped #9 for excessive violence, but this one is back on track. Kate is recovering from what happened in #9, and much of the book is told from Chopper Jim's perspective. All in all, an excellent book, and I'm continuing right on to #11, The Singing of the Dead. After which, I think I'll drop back to the Ring of Fire universe and maybe read some Grantville Gazette shorts.

Also, I picked up Existence from the library this morning. It's 556 pages of small print. I'm not sure I'm going to be able to read this without my eyes crossing. Edit: I took a break from reading Existence to read Brin's short story The Crystal Spheres which explains why we don't see a million alien civilizations in the universe already. Well worth the 99 cents. Last edited by carld; 07-19-2012 at 08:32 PM. |

I'm reading Cause and Effect by Heather Adkins, a really clever little novella. Dark at times, but well worth the read. Her characters are very believable and it's a really interesting concept for a story.
