This issue is all part of the margin issue I brought up earlier in this thread. In addition to the hyphenation issue, when you use justified text, the margins randomly go to zero. See in the jpgs here when justify is used that the margins are zero, but not in the ragged edge jpg.

I have the same problem (randomly) with kepubs, where I turn the reader on, I find I have no margins (as shown in my jpgs below). When I power up my reader I loose my margins, and after I toggle the margin setting you can see the margins begin to work. This bug only appears when using justified text.

I can also permanenetly clear the problem by using ragged edge. That's what I'm using as my solution. I'd rather use justified, but there's a definite bug with the justified text.

I succesfully installed 2.0 version using Kobo desktop. I was a little nervous during the process after reading all the unsucesfull atempts.. Fortunately it was not my case. But what I REALLY don't like is the missing clock when reading. I am mostly reading at night, in bed, with a clip-on light and from time to time check the clock on the reader to make sure I don't stay too late. Now, I have to reach for my watch.. it is very annoying. I really hope to have this function back again. I won't buy a new reader just for that but I won't recommend it to someone else either. This was a small thing that improved the reading experience. I can't even imagine what was behind this decision, who was bothered by that tiny little clock.

It has to be the last word of a paragraph. See the extra thread for more details, Knobias even posted an example.

My KT updated yesterday lunchtime. The only problem I had was that I was reading a library book and had to delete and reload it - no big deal. Now that I've spent 24hrs playing with the new features I have to say I'm very happy with the shelves, new home page etc.

But I have to join in the chorus of "bring back the clock!"

Re-reading the post by hitmanx, I believe he is having a different problem then what you are referring.

its either that only a few of us are getting this ridiculous error, or everyone else doesn't care about it... its been mentioned on this thread but no one has commented on it...

ex: "Ad nauseam is a Latin term used to describe somet-
hing unpleasurable which has continued "to [the point of] nausea". Fo-
r example, the sentence, "This topic has been discussed ad nauseam", signi-
fies that the topic in question has been discussed extensively, and that thos-
e involved in the discussion have grown tired of it."

I for one cannot read books like this, and I cannot think of another example of any writing that uses this kind of behaviour... Browers? nope... real books? nope... news papers? nope... firmware 1.9.17? nope...

Why hasn't kobo heard of word wrap? Also it doesnt matter what the justifcation is, and they looked fine on 1.9.17...

2nd question:

factory reset and loaded 1.9.17... calibre loads epubs but when ejected kobo doesnt process content and says i need to set up the kobo before adding books, but if i set it up with kobo desktop it updates to 2.0.0!!

the epubs are in the file structure of the kobo, but not showing in library...

Am I missing something?
Maybe it varies from epub to epub? The book I'm reading has a handful of hyphenated words on each page, but they're all done properly at syllable breaks. I have not encountered any instances of words being arbitrarily hyphenated.

Right now I'm reading The Mysterious Island by Jules Verne, downloaded from here, and looking at the first several pages of chapter 13, I find the following hyphenated words:

ter-rible
af-ter
op-portunity
is-land
al-ready
ac-complished

So I can say that hyphenation seems to be working fine for me, at least with this particular epub.

I added around 80 new books to my Kobo last night, and it ran through the processing in seconds whereas before it would take minutes. It went so quickly that I thought something was wrong and felt compelled to verify that the books had, in fact, been added!

Based on your different results, I did a factory restore *again*. Factory restore for me is 1.9 (r27873 May 20 2011). The only fonts on the system are Georgia and Avenir.

After updating to 2.0 (r41166) I have the same fonts as I noted before - I am missing Delima and Felbridge.

I think someone mentioned earlier in the thread that perhaps you need to upgrade to a version that includes these fonts BEFORE you upgrade to 2.0

I had actually been wondering about this as I do think Kobo have shipped different "factory firmware" levels as time progressed.

The upgrade to 2.0.0 contains
Code:
Amasis
Avenir
georgia
GillSans
Gothic MB101.otf [only the one weight]
Rockwell
Ryumin.otf [only the one weight]
The two fonts in single weight are also the only ones in otf format; the rest are ttf's. The two of them are also far far larger in size; probably contain all characters.

There was an issue with the Georgia that was baked in and capable of font tuning not having the full set of diacritical marks. Ryumin (and probably the other one) were additions for folks needing the diacritical. My expectation is that the whole fonts business will be taken care of in the next build.

My Vox has a very nice dictionary. Well, actually, it has a very good spell checker. My university education occurred in the 70s, so i know what word to try to type.

Since there are six hyphenation dictionaries on board, the system has somehow to decide which one to use. One guess would be that it takes the information from the content.opf (e.g. <dc:language xsi:type="dcterms:RFC4646">en</dc:language>). If this is the case, the KT could evidently not support mixed language books correctly. I do not know whether it does. Or maybe it looks for the language attributes in the html files (e.g. <p lang="en">). In that case support of multilingual books could be possible.
Maybe you should check your book for language information and whether they are correct.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO CANT SIDELOAD BOOKS AFTER REVERTING TO 1.9.17

I found the solution.

You must register your kobo with the computer kobo software before it will let you add sideloaded content. To do that without updating, simply delete the update files from the .kobo folder before unplugging from the computer. I listed them below.

.kobo\upgrade
.kobo\KoboRoot.tgz
.kobo\manifest.md5sum
