As soon as I updated, I opened a kepub and it looked like I was reading a large print book. My settings hadn't changed but it seemed like Kobo's type scale did. If I bump the kepub font size down to a reasonable size, then sideloaded epubs show up tiny and unreadable. This is similar to the margin discrepancy but it's probably about 3 levels of font size difference between kepubs and epubs.

I searched the thread but couldn't find any other reports about this issue.

Attached are two images, the first showing a kepub, the second an epub. Exact same font settings for both.
Hmmm not sure on your problem but good example of not having your text justified yet still getting hyphenation.

That's "normal" in 2.0. I think it relates to some changes to make e-pubs display more "correctly" to what was intended by the e-pub. Interestingly it really varies by book -- some might have big discrepancy, others won't have much difference at all. I assume this is why they didn't put in a scaling to keep things similar between the 2.

Any way to fix this? I normally read 2-3 books at a time and it is annoying to have to adjust font sizes when I switch between books.

I just did the same reset and I have Delima. I also have Felbridge, which is missing from your list and was one of the .17 fonts.

Jaden, there seems to be a difference between turning justification off and choosing ragged right. Also (and I really don't get this) it seems like the order in which you go from one to the other seems to matter.

Find a book in which this is really annoying. Play with the justification options a bit and see if you stumble upon a setting that works for you. Fortunately, you can see the page in the background as you change the options.

Here's the "deal" with hyphenations:

Kepub and epub are handled differently yet again!

Epub has hyphenations no matter if set to justified or left aligned. But most of them are okay, except for a few unusual words (like the aforementioned souls-cape).

In kepub there's only hyphenation if the view is set to justified.

That's how it should work for both epub and kepub - no hyphenation when left-aligned, hyphenation only when justified.

Funny thing: hyphenations in kepubs are strange, like elect-ronic, which of course should be like in epubs (use the dictionary) ...

I found out what's going on - see my other post above. Just before you've posted that. Or at least I think I did.

The book I'm currently reading doesn't look different no matter if I choose justification off or left align... but my Kobo sometimes resets itself (or needs a reset) if I change from one to the other.

This is the first release in a very long time when there have been differences between kepubs and ePubs. It used to be a common occurrence. I'm not going to speculate about why we are seeing it now. I do expect them to be relatively shortlived.

Well... Not really... though the differences where less obvious before.

Some sideloaded fonts used to only work properly with KePubs in .14 and .16 - and still do.

Also if there were margins or line-spacing or justification set in the epub the Touch was not able to override that and use custom settings (unlike kepubs - custom settings were always possible) - not sure if you can count that, though.

But now the differences are big - so I hope they will combine both:
Hyphenation only when justified and using the dictionary to correctly hyphenate in both epub and kepub. That would be lovely.

One thing to be aware of... Kobo now creates the images files when needed; this can give the perception of slowness in the Library view as you page through the first time.

Might this be due to the css settings in the epub? From what I recall, this might not be fully overridden by the kobo settings. (It may be that the font is overridden but the font size setting isn't). I found this frustrating with margin settings for epubs until I took a sledgehammer to the css files in them.

I did not do a factory reset, but downloaded the new, eventually signed out and signed into my account and after a Kobo content download, found that there was no destructive 'reset'. All stock fonts were accounted for. All my side-loaded custom fonts remained intact as well with the upgrade. Whew!

ex: "Ad nauseam is a Latin term used to describe somet-

I for one cannot read books like this, and I cannot think of another example of any writing that uses this kind of behaviour... Browers? nope... real books? nope... news papers? nope... firmware 1.9.17? nope...

Why hasn't kobo heard of word wrap? Also it doesnt matter what the justifcation is, and they looked fine on 1.9.17...

2nd question:

...
I'm not seeing anything that drastic with hyphenated words at the ends of lines. I'm seeing maybe one hyphenated word per screen, and the hyphens look reasonable to me.

I have the 2.0.0 first release. Side-loaded epubs (through Calibre). Full justification turned on.

Hmm.. So does that mean the 'processing' stage is a bit faster when you add new books since it doesn't create the image files it doesn't immediately need?
