I probably have my limit on the computers authorized and also have several kindle devices, a half dozen sansa clips, i think my iphone (which I don't use much and only as an iPod touch, mostly for music in the car) and most likely my iPad and maybe even my android phone.

Also, you can have more than one Audible account (although, only one that uses the same email as your Amazon account and connects to your Kindles there) and authorize each device to one or more specific accounts. On the desktop (which I use to download), you can also have multiple accounts and seldom need to enter the various passwords on them (I've had some accounts for judging that I've used and various family members have had accounts - all can use the same desktop app and download to a single app and share devices).

You will almost certainly be offered the option automatically when you use the website to cancel. If not I'd bet you can call and CS will do it for you.

It's located here:

Also, they use a proprietary format that does not work on all devices. Verify that the devices you would be using it on are compatible here:

Thanks for the info. I'm inclined to forget about it, then. I don't want to deal with DRM on audio books. I thought the files would be akin to music files. What I wanted to do was burn the audio book files to CDs, but it's sounding like that would either not be allowed or would turn into some huge hassle.

I've already had issues with library audio books--(when I download the odm file to a flash drive, the book won't subsequently download on the computer with the Overdrive console)--but for a free "read," I'm willing to put up with some difficulty. I'm not willing to deal with all the confusion with something I pay for and ostensibly own.

I think I will buy CD versions of the very few audio books I'd like to own. Then I will know they're really mine.

I am getting more ornery and curmudgeonly by the hour.

Most Audible books are burnable to cd but it is time consuming. There are ways to cirumvent the drm and create mp3 files but that is also a bit of a hassle. Still they are alot cheaper then buying the cd editions so may be worth it.

I haven't tried it, but if it works like some other DRMs then doing "its thang" will take as long as playing the whole book does.

Once I set it off it takes about 30mins per book part most books I've done are either one part or 2. I usually let it go while I do the housework.

Since my two primary audio devices (Sansa Clip, iPod touch) support audiobooks in the three major formats (MP3, WMA, Audible), I don't bother doing any conversions. There's no need to.

Even using the analog hole method, you can get software that works many times faster than realtime.

But that's not exactly what I, and I presume melmac, is talking about.

A 7 hour segment takes, as melmac said, maybe 20-30 minutes, and several parts can be batched.

It requires a couple pieces of software, which are not quite as easy to find and configure them as it is to with the ebook tools.

They have added 100 books to the sale, so now a total of 200. Unfortunately, they just added them in with the rest so it's necessary to go through them all again.

I'm getting Deliverance by James Dickey (basis for the movie) for $5.95. The ebook version is $11.95.

Thanks for the heads up. Hadn't read my email today.

Deliverance is a great movie and I thought about getting this one. Here's a bit of trivia for those interested. The author, James Dickey, played the sheriff in the final scenes of the film.

Spoiler:

Looks like Atlas Shrugged (by Ayn Rand) was added to the list. Since it's available in the library, I'll pass on buying it.
