I'm having trouble getting a book to be recognised by the KT! At first it was right there in the carousel with a warped cover image, so I edited the version of the book I had on my computer. I had Calibre delete the copy on the KT and put the new edited version on the KT. Unplugged, processed new content: nothing there. This missing bit was expected as that's what I've experienced with 2.0.0. So I plugged back in and put it back with Calibre (it was indeed gone from the KT). Unplugged, processed content: still not there. Plugged back in, put it back from the finder (on my mac, equivalent to windows explorer). Unplugged, processed content: nothing. Plugged back in: it was still there! I've deleted it, done it all over again, all from the finder, and the book now appears on the KT on its drive, but the KT won't see it!
EDIT: Oop, found the mistake, I incorrectly rezipped. Last edited by Mrs_Often; 07-16-2012 at 04:12 PM. |

Going OT
A .epub is just a .zip file renamed. example: "The Forever War.epub" rename to "The Forever War.zip" You can now use WinZip (or other program with zip capabilities), unzip the file (I unzip the contents to a folder with the same book name. So with the above example I would unzip the contents to "The Forever War" now burrow down to the "The Forever War" -> "OEBPS" -> "Images" folder to find the cover, make your edit. Now the important part, re-zipping, do not zip the folder "The Forever War" You want to zip the contents IN that folder or the book won't work. You should see 2 folders META-INF and OEBPS and one file mimetype. Select all 3 and rezip, rename .zip file to .epub

I assume (but do not know for sure) that when we actually get an update to 2.xx this is one of the things that we can expect to work differently. |

When current reading book disappears from carousel after loading new books go to library then change sort to by most recent read so it is easy to find books you want to read.

Of course, but it still a hassle that users shouldn't have to go through. When reading a book, I say it should stay put in the carousel until it's finished. Putting 5 new books on the device doesn't mean I'm done with the book I'm reading...

Has anyone noticed a small black 'block' with an arrow pointing left, with "20" written inside? It appears to the right of the "Discover" link, slightly lower than baseline... It appears some times for me, but is usually not there. Any idea what it is? I don't think it's something discovery-related, as my Wifi is off...

Hi Danger
Exploded book with tweak in calibre. Resized cover with PSE saved Opened titlepage.xhtml.: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> <html lang="en" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" http-equiv="Content-Type"> <meta content="true" name="calibre:cover"> <title>Cover</title> <style title="override_css" type="text/css"> @page {padding: 0pt; margin:0pt} body { text-align: center; padding:0pt; margin: 0pt; } </style> </head> <body> <div> <svg preserveAspectRatio="none" viewBox="0 0 452 686" height="100%" width="100%" version="1.1" xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"> <image href="cover.jpeg" height="686" width="452"> </svg> </div> </body> </html> If I change code of body to : <body style="margin: 0px; text-align: center;"> <div><img alt="" src="../Images/cover.jpg" /></div> </body> and then rebuild the cover does not show. Can you tell me the mistake I am making? Thanks Michael |

OT: Cover Image extentions
Quote:
src="../Images/cover.jpg" to src="../Images/cover.jpeg" In your Images folder you will see the image file is cover.jpeg rather than cover.jpg. I'm not sure why but it's the norm rather than the exception in epubs. I've also seen covers with the png extention, although this is rare. |

I always thought it was strange behavior to bump the books you are reading for the ones just added to the device. I think the idea is that if you add something you are probably going to start reading it right away. In the case of buying from the Kobo store this isn't an issue. But if you side load a bunch of books then you lose what you were reading in the list. It would be nice if there was a option toggle to turn off showing the newly added books on the home screen.

That has always annoyed me, too--especially because when you do a factory reset (or at least this was true in the past) you really need to pull your SD card and then add it back in. That puts the ePUBs on the device ahead in the queue before kepubs.

Run into an odd situation. My KT has downloaded new software twice now (direct over wireless) and gone through the update... only to come back up in 1.9.17. Weird.
I'm considering a factory reset and all the grief that comes with it... |

I actually ended up doing a reset to 1.9.14, which is the only firmware that worked well for me for actually reading books (mainly epubs). 1.9.16 had the double-tap issue, I had the top margin issue for 1.9.17 and the slow page turns under 2.0 became really noticable when I tried 1.9.14 again. Its nice to have the choice though, and I appreciate the effort to add new features (even though some of the decisions are not exactly what I would choose). It is a shame that little niggling things have made each release a bit disappointing for me though.
