Interesting. After upgrading from 1.9.17 to 2.0.0, then downgrading back to 1.9.17 again (via factory reset), I now have the same exact problem with Charis on 1.9.17…

My device upgraded to 2.0.0 successfully the first time around. It's currently on version 2.0.0 (r41097, 7/9/12). I can't get it to update to the newer release build, even by forcing a manual sync. Either the new build hasn't been made available for Australian IPs yet, or it isn't distinguished by the Desktop's update routine and I'm going to have to wait till they release something where the version number changes.
I guess I could downgrade to 1.9.17 and then let it upgrade again, but I don't think I can be blamed for being wary of doing that! ![]() Last edited by MacEachaidh; 07-16-2012 at 09:52 AM. |

Yes, I used the four files and renamed them exactly that way. For some reason though, even switching -Italic and -Bold (then rebooting the reader) doesn’t work to fix the issue.
EDIT: … or maybe my reader actually hates me and wouldn’t agree to fix the issue until I mentioned it online ![]() Last edited by Erkhyan; 07-16-2012 at 10:00 AM. |

OK got the latest version of 2.0.0 installed (r41166).
It's a bit faster with page turning with sideloaded books than the original version of 2.0.0 but slower than 1.9.17. The boot sequence is nice and fast though, at least as fast as 1.9.17. I'll stick with the new version of 2.0.0 for now and see if I can put up with the slightly slower page turning compared to 1.9.17. |

r41166 was available over 36 hours ago using the direct link.
And it didn't work with my Touch. I'm not sure about the geographies that are getting the updates, so far I'm not getting it from Australia or Washington, DC. |

I ran into some problems with the old 2.0.0 on Saturday, so did a factory reset, which reverted me back to 1.9.17. I guess I shouldn't have bothered, but I added back a bunch of sideloaded books. (I was reading a sideloaded book at the time, so just added them all back in.)
Well, last night the device upgraded again to the new 2.0.0 and now I can't read any sideloaded content. Attempting to open a book results in the device rebooting. Sigh. I'm going to have to experiment to see if this happens with all sideloaded content, or just content that's already on the device. I really don't want to have to go through loading everything again, but it looks like I might have to. Edited to add: Well, I added a new book via Calibre and it looks like the problem is will all sideloaded content, not just content that was already on the device. I'm getting the shakes just thinking about being without my ereader, so it looks like I'm back to my Kobo Original (since I doubt my daughters will give up their WiFi models) until all this is sorted out. @ Suzanna.
What size microSD card are you using for Sideloaded books? I had an 8gb card some updates ago and had all sorts of problems and eventually went back down to a 2gb card and now have no problems at all. |

I don't use an SD card. I have my content right on the device because I only have 500mb of space in use.

Yeah seeing this too. Definitely slower than 1.9.17 on Kobo ePUBs but not a deal breaker for me. Still haven't tried any sideloaded content yet.

Just installed the latest version. So far, so good.
It took quite a while to download, about 30 minutes including syncing one book. The installation was fast, about 5 minutes. Creating a shelf and adding books to it was easy. The font tuning does seem to improve the clarity of the fonts. (I'm using Felbridge.) I wouldn't say that there's a huge difference in page turns on kepubs. It may be a little faster, but not much. I haven't tried a side-loaded book yet. (I'm waiting for the eLibrary book that I have on hold.) |

Thanks for all the replies to my page turn question a few (thread-)pages back... I downloaded 2.0 from the link a day or two ago and last night, I updated my KT. It worked perfectly! Update within 6 minutes, no hassle. All content still in tact, reading stats, sideload, everything (except my sudoku, but oh well).
Now running 2.0.0 (r41166, 7/12/12). Here's what I think so far: Likes - I *LOVE* the new home screen! Finally no clutter! Thanks for listening Kobo. - I LOVE that the top margin is back for side loaded books! Yay! - I LOVE the new pop-up dictionary upon tap-holding a word! (It would be nice to be able to exit the menu by pressing the X in the pop-up without having to also hit the X in the bottom bar.) - I LOVE the shelves. - I really like the new option to exit any settings page to go right to the home screen with the little cross in the top right (as apposed to having to go back to the settings list with the back-arrow only to have to hit the home button anyway). - I like the new font tweaking option, although I have not been able to fully try it out as I mainly use side loaded books (even the kepubs that I've bought, I download the epub version as I don't like the page numbers per chapter that the kepubs give instead of page numbers per total) - Wishlist is good, but might be more practical to have only on the Desktop app and on kobobooks.com, as it's a lot of hassle to browse and pin on the KT. I would never do that, as I always have my laptop to do the browsing with, and laptop is a lot faster... Bugs - Slow page turns for side loaded books - Creating shelves: screen is quite non responsive in left and right bottom hand corners (adding bottom book and hitting left hand arrow to go to the previous page) - After creating a shelf, if I change the view to show the covers in a tiled way, then edit the shelf to add a book and save, the shelf reappears with the new book added, but back in the standard view. - In the Library: dropdown menus next to the books in list view show the option to "mark as finished", even for books that ARE finished… - When sideloading books to KT, then ejecting and unplugging and waiting for KT to process new contents the home screen comes up when it's ready. However, home screen is unresponsive (or sometimes extreeeemely slow, and then something goes wrong). I have to put KT to sleep and wake up again, after which the home screen is perfectly responsive. - Deleting the book I'm currently reading from the KT (using calibre), and then putting it back (edited), makes it disappear from the KT after new contents is processed. I have to plug the KT back into the computer and send the book to the KT again for the KT to actually accept it's there… (It works fine for books I'm not currently reading.) - Edit to add: this hyphenation problem people are having, I don't have so many hyphenation errors, but what I do notice is that the lines are very full. Letters and words are quite close together compared to previously, I don't much like it, too much information so close together for my eyes! Requests - Would still really like a 24 hour clock for the English system (I know 24 hour clock is available for the other languages) - Having said that, I would really like the clock back! I'm not so bothered about the clock on the home screen being one tap further away, but having a clock when reading a book and tapping centre was SO handy… As previously suggested: why not replace the Wifi-icon that shows up within a menu when reading a book with the clock… I don't care about Wifi when reading, I want clockness when reading! - It would be nice to have the shelf functionality in the folder structure, so when the KT is plugged into a computer you can easily make and edit shelves… I imagine a "Shelves" folder in which each folder is a shelf that contains the books inside that subfolder… Last edited by Mrs_Often; 07-16-2012 at 11:06 AM. |
