Come on now, programming upstart script event triggers can't be any worse than programming event handlers in Visual Basic, can it?

@ixtab The usbnet hack comes with a mosh server, kindletool and a version of busybox specially configured for telnetd

The busybox build also has the ftpd applet bundled in, but I never bothered wiring it to anything, sftp/scp/sshfs is just much nicer .
