I keep mine on DVDs (one DVD to use, and another DVD as a backup). It frees up disk space, and saves having to provide more disk storage - but maybe I'm missing something .
If I could get my collection on just one DVD, I would. I exaggerated slightly in my previous post. I know I could put my TBR on a DVD, it's slightly over 2 GB. But my total collection of reading materials is somewhere around 12 GB, and that doesn't include the podcasts and audiobooks (which would add another 40GB or so). And if I have to swap DVDs, I know that I won't bother.

But you did raise a good point. I really should archive most of my MP3s.

It's a real sense of emptiness, isn't it. Only thing worse than finishing a book you love is finishing a series you love. Suddenly you realize that you'll never again meet these characters - at least not for the first time. It's as if they've become your friends and then announced that they're moving away.

I have a NAS too : 500 Gigs, RAID 1
It takes a bit of time to organize everything on it, but it's worth it to have all handy anytime.

And I too enjoyed Old Man's War a lot.

I've been slowly building my collection of Jack McDevitt, my new favorite author. (Interestingly enough, I didn't much like my first JM book, it was too long, but I came back and gave him another chance, and now I'm a JM fan. Got started with Doc Savage the same way!)

I say slowly, because I have not found all of his books on e-book yet, so I pick them up as I come across them. Hopefully, I'll be able to get any and all of his books in e-book formats... that's the nice thing about liking a current author who "gets" the e-book thing.

Add to that the PD Mobi books I've been picking up recently, and I'm developing a backlog that will keep me reading happy for quite a while! (Mainly because my time for reading is becoming so short...)

And you need to be slaving away at your keyboard, young man. You have a fan-base here that needs constant gratification!

How do you expect to be Hugo-nominated for WorldCon '09 unless you suck up miserably with the FSAetc group?

This week, I finished The Stand by Stephen King. It was the uncut edition and it was really good. Long, but quite good. I was sorry to see it end. The ending was really good.

But, not to worry, I picked another book to read. One that I had read once before. But not in a very long time and this book is even better the second time then the first time. I am reading Robert A. Heinlein's The Puppet Masters.

Thanks, all... and as soon as I decide on a possible rebuild for the SJB, I'll be back to production (hey, I just finished the last one... my fingers are still tired!).

true story:

Rob Sawyer was on Compuserve SF SIG when he started out. We decided in a Thursday Night Chat Room to get him a Hugo. Almost all of us were WorldCon members, so when the nom ballots came out, we led a coordinated attack and Bob's your uncle, he was nominated for the first time. Eventually won one, too. So, don't think we couldn't get that ball rolling for Steve, as well.

OK, so that explains it. I have always suspected that some authors are on the short list because of campaigns like that and not because the quality of the work.
