And another weird thing. In the KoboRoot.tgz, there is a directory for the TrollTech stuff (for QtEmbedded, which is where the fonts are), KoboRoot.tgz\.\usr\local\Trolltech\QtEmbedded-4.8.0-arm, which is full of zero length files.

Maybe someone didn't build the release package correctly.

Edit: Closer examination shows that the 4.8.0 zero length files are link files, pointing to the 4.6.2 version of the QtEmbedded files.

So, I hooked it up to the Kobo Desktop (3.0, the one just released), and it downloaded the 1.9.17 firmware and updated the Touch to the 1.9.17 firmware.
Same here.

I doubt it. It was a perfectly working feature previously, and in introducing a new feature they've broken something related.

It happens all the time, and users like spinning conspiracy theories about the motivations of the companies.

It'll get fixed. It's just broken.

Well I've encountered my first issue with the upgrade. All my awards are gone as in blank screen where awards should be. At least it's not a huge issue. And yes I synced before and after the upgrade. Hopefully once they fix things and put up 2.0.1 (or a fixed 2.0.0) they'll come back.

Hi everyone, since some users were having difficulty with the new Kobo Touch device upgrade, we have temporarily paused the rollout while we investigate the problem. As a result, if you factory reset your device and re-upgrade, you will receive 1.9.17 again instead of 2.0.0.

For those affected with the scrolling squares problem, please execute a factory reset and reupgrade:
1. Hold down the home button and insert a pin in the back of the device to initiate the reset.
2. Connect device to Kobo Desktop and re-setup - you will receive 1.9.17 in an upgrade and all should be fine. If you still have issues following this, please PM or email me at shasan at kobo dot com.

The Desktop 3.0 update is continuing as planned.

I will post here when the upgrade to 2.0 is re-enabled.

Thanks for bearing with us.

Thanks Sameer, If we're already on 2.0.0 (as I am and it works ok) will the "fixed" version update those on 2.0.0? or will we need to reset to 1.9.11 first?

OR is the fixed version going to be 2.0.1 or something?

Have not yet decided on that. It will likely require a factory reset to get the 'fixed' version since a large majority of customers are not seeing problems (in a 2.0.1 scenario, they would get upgraded as well).

Feel free to share your preference and we will take it into consideration.

It depends on what is fixed. If it fixes some of the issues (like the very slow page turns or any of the other bugs) a version 2.0.1 would be appreciated. Having to do a factory reset to get a fixed version would be rather annoying, especially for those with lots of books.

If it just fixes that some people can't upgrade and nothing else, well, than there's no need for everyone to get updated, since the people with problems will be on an earlier firmware version anyway, right?

Please try to avoid factory resets when possible. It is a PITA reloading books, re-entering wifi stuff, disabling the social stuff, reloading fonts, ...

I wanted to say that this isn't a universal problem. I have Windows 7 64 bit and was able to install the new version of the desktop software.

There is one issue I'm experiencing - very slow load time of the home screen.

I just timed it with a stopwatch and it took 38 seconds to load the home screen from within a book. Not a huge amount of time in the vast scheme of things, but it is very noticeable. I compared it to my husband's Kobo yesterday and it took my eReader at least twice as long to load the page. The only thing different between my Kobo and my husbands is I have more books loaded onto mine, both Kepubs and sideloaded epubs. It's by no means full, though. I have 418 MB of the device in use atm (I don't use an SD card.)

SameerH - Please also look at the issue where the 4 books displayed on the home page are randomly bouncing around and not staying in the same order and the book I am currently reading is jumping all over the place too inside those squares.

Seeing as I've already set up bookshelves and I don't want to lose them by doing a reset, I would prefer an incremental update (such as 2.0.1), assuming I would keep my bookshelves if you were to do an incremental (I.E 2.0.1).

If there's a way of preserving all my shelves setup and still do a reset, then I don't mind either way.

I would add that when powering on my KT it takes longer to read the book list from the external card as well. Probably about 3 times as long, which isn't that long, just maybe 20 seconds more now.
Also I notice when reading the external card, the text of the % of reading jumps up a few lines and then down again, which looks odd. It never used to do that.

I also noted when adding books to shelves, if you do a search (like a wildcard search)when adding books (instead of just paging through the complete list) sometimes the process just cancels out and goes back to the home screen.
This doesn't happen when just paging through all the books though.

As already stated in many places, paging is a bit slower now when reading books from the external card.

As a user that has no trouble with the update I'd want a v2.01 when everything is sorted out. I have seen the book cover displayed in 'sleep' mode bug as well as slow page turns with sideloaded epubs. The latter being very annoying (though not as bad as some of the other bugs).

Please put the clock back where it was. We waited a long time for it and it's much better available on demand with only one touch. Many times I get so into reading that I forget about the time and it was very convenient to tap and see the time. I cannot understand why anyone would think it better to change a feature by making it less convenient. It takes a total of 4 taps to see the time and then dismiss it.
