sorry if it has been brought up but i am on my cell phone so i can't go back through all the posts.

shelves just aren't working for me. i can't create new ones and my short list is non existent. if i try to add to my shortlist it will darken the heart and i get a popup that it was added but if i exit the library and go back i have a hollow heart. there is no shortlist under shelves. if i try to make a shelf the process appears to go through successfully but that shelf never appears on my list. i only have the 'new shelf ' option no matter h9ow many shelves i make. hmmm are there any solutions or am i the only one?

other than this i am quite happy with the speed on navigation, no more double taps needed!! my in book response speed seems slower though, but manageable. love the long press definition being back too!!

to fix the shelve issue you need to sign-out from the kobo, and the re-sign in.
I've had the same issue, and fixed it this way.
BUT you'll loose your short-list, reading stats, and book read/unread/last read page status (at least this happen to sideloaded epub)

OK, thanks. I'll have to check that when I upgrade. On the present firmware it doesn't seem to consider .png image files as books so the maps don't appear in the most recent five, which is why the shortlist was so handy. And as I understand it the new shelves system is sorted alphabetically, so the "Shortlist" gets buried towards the back of the list somewhere, which makes it a not so short to find list.

I agree, having instant access to the clock with one tap is very handy. Don't know why it was changed, I can't see any benefit to it.

I just had a vision of the ideal firmware development environment. Kobo devs, tweaks plugin devs and Kovid Goyal, all sat in one room synthesizing the best firmware on the planet tightly integrated with Calibre, (for capabilities such as creating shelves in Calibre and importing to the Touch).

Ah well, one can dream.

I'm somewhat annoyed that I lost my hours read stats but what's really worse is all my annotations/highlights are gone and I've had to manually mark everything as finished.
I did the logoff and reset to try to speed up my page turns. I might have helped a tiny bit but certainly didn't restore it to the speed of the previous firmware.
However, I did not lose anything related to my sideloaded books. All the stats were OK including the read/unread/% read.

I'm quite happy with the upgrade to 2.0 - but I'm also have the issues with the sleep covers and the slow page turns with epubs.

When reading just a single book the generic kobo sleep screen shows instead of my book cover. However if reading 2 books then the cover from the previous book shows instead of the most recent book.
When the kobo then actually turns off the correct cover is shown.

A minor glitch which will hopefully be fixed soon - more irritating to me are the page turns.

I'm still getting quite a few dead taps (ie tap and nothing happens) - nowhere near as bad as one of the previous firmwares but now that the epub page turns are much slower I'm finding this quite annoying as I either think it's just a slow turn (and wait for ages before tapping again) or I decide it's a dead tap and retap only to then have 2 page turns.

You know what was most aggravating to me with the clock? Despite the fact I loved the way it worked, bad habits die hard and I kept turning to my wrist for time...

Now, _that_ was really annoying!

Are you sure? This is strange because I did loose some fonts too after a factory reset while in 2.0.0.

I went from 1.9.17 with the extra factory fonts to 2.0.0, then a factory reset took me back to 1.9.5 then 2.0.0 and those fonts were gone!

After going back to 1.9.17 then 2.0.0 they were back.

Since the upgrade I am not able to sync a new book to my Kobo from the desk top. It said it had downloaded but was not in my books. Finally tried using WIFI and the book downloaded. Do not like this as I do not often use WIFI with my KT.

I also have a question. Do you or should you do a factory reset before doing the upgrade and why?

Thumbs up

been playing with the new updates, overall a positive step i feel.
in the desktop the feel is improved though i'm still having some lagging/freezing issues (is an older laptop so could just be too CPU intensive) i like the rearrangement of the desktops shelves and the pin/wishlist feature. however to take this further i would like to see one be able to search for a title and pin it straight to wishlist without adding it to the library first.

i am disappointed that the reading life stats are not on the desktop still (not sure this ever will be done or possible but it would be a great addition as i think it would be easier to browse through your awards on the desktop than the ereader, and they'd be in colour to )

i agree with comments similar to this one.....

i liked the carousel once i realised i could change it to the shortlist. i don't think it's a deal breaker removing it per se, but an option to let us choose would be great. i.e

i am stumped on the 'discover' tab being above the book covers on the front screen. it seems a waste of real estate to me and confusing being where it is (too close to 'reading' and the covers and i spent awhile thinking maybe 'reading' was therefore a link to but it isn't). and then down the bottom you have 'find books'. which, in my opinion, is just doubling up; and pushing more towards advertising and more purchases than being able to see what you already have on your reader. i do like the discover option on the desktop - there it easy to navigate and be able to read synopses quickly but on the ereader it's a complete annoyance.

i was having issues with the wifi dying on me all the time, touch wood it is now working i.e i can sync and access the store via wifi and not usb or having to delete the wifi settings and rescan it again. i hope this stays working. major thumbs up there.

my georgia font went a bit awry. played with a few others (back to georgia though re-tweaked) and do like the weighting option. i think there could still be some improvements on the margins i.e the step between one margin size and the next seems too large. i had this prob before. i have read the top margin is fixed but haven't tried a book yet i had that issue on, but i'm very glad it was a fix.

the definition on a word coming straight up is a great improvement. the time thing doesn't bother me, never used it anyway but the box that pops up will take some time to get used to. and having it on the left instead of the right

only other thing i noticed is i chose 'categories' at some point/somewhere and it went to the online store (not what i was expecting but had no idea what it did) and the categories were a few text lines crammed up into the top left corner and were difficult to select. i'm not sure if it was meant to be like this.

----
mmm anything else? that's all that springs to mind right now, overall a

Unless you currently have no books on the device (sideloaded books on a microSD card are fine - but any books in the Kobo's internal storage would be wiped) and don't mind losing the read/unread/bookmark status of your sideloads, you shouldn't factory reset unless absolutely necessary.

HELP. I have just bought a kobo touch, have installed kobo desktop 3.0.0 on my computer and followed the instructions to update the kobo touch. Once I have followed through to the eject stage it begins the update but seems to freeze when on the screen with kobo picture and 5 squares underneath. I really want to try to use this great looking machine but so far have only spent hours trying to be able to load books onto it. Any suggestions? thanks

Motchick: I don't suppose you're in Australia?

Lots of us are dealing with the square-dance issue right now, and Kobo's apparently 'working on it'.

Meanwhile, to read sideloaded books at least, you can downgrade to the .17 firmware. Poke around this forum for details.

Close, I'm in NZ. The Kobo won't let me do anything until I plug it into the computer and load this software or whatever. Seriously, this is straight from the shop. Already taken one back cos it wasn't working, but appears to be a similiar problem on this. I haven't even been able to turn the thing on yet. I was hoping to send this easy to use item to my mum for her birthday. I have kindle which i love but the local libraries say kindle is not able to use their ebooks. Hence my descision to try a kobo for her. Not liking it so far!
