Morally only applies to acts one performs oneself. One cannot apply one's moral standards to another's actions where those actions do not harm others. Derek

Of course you can. If you think some kind of utilitarism is correct for exemple then you can say that others actions are wrong. And of course in consequence ethics it can be right to harm others.

Yes, it does. In the US, for example, one is allowed to publish a photograph of a "street scene" with identifiable people in it. In the UK, one is not allowed to publish such a picture without the permission of the people depicted. Google "Streets" are having to "blur out" faces on their images of the UK for this reason.

Ramen, you just wanted to start a really big thread, right? This seems like an endless discussion here on MR. *not getting involved* |

The purpose was not to spam threads but simply to post the news (see the forum section this is in) together with a poll. The reason this is an endless discussion is obviously because it is, as of yet, unresolved. Simply ignoring the problem is stupid as then the hardliners on both sides will take over and MR is a proper forum for such a discussion. Also, I think the new copyright duration thread is contructive and therefore advances the discussion. Of course, this assumes that the MR readers don't just forget it before the next round.

I'm with Bob. I have an opinion, certainly. But I'm *so* tired of the discussion. And I've heard all the arguments...there really isn't anything new to say.
