I saw at least 3 people using iPads as cameras in my last trip. An eye-sore, I tell ya. I can't understand why anybody would want to use a tablet as a camera, it is cumbersome, the optics are far below what digital cameras offer and, most importantly, you look totally stupid.

In the 20-odd years that I took pictures professionally, I spent most of that time with my head under a black cloth making sense of an image that was upside down and back to front; if I worried about how I looked, I'd never have taken a single picture.
I use my iPad a fair bit for taking work-related photos and every time I marvel at how gorgeous that screen is - like holding up a perfectly exposed 10x8 transparency up to the light - and how easy it is to compose a shot on that big screen. Still don't give much of a toss about how I look when I'm shooting, 'cos at the end of the day all there is are the pictures - however they were captured ![]() |

Right, but that is if you have both cameras, and sometimes switch to the back one. I though the original comment was that given the choice of only one, the front was more important.

Well it makes perfect sense to me. Why carry a 4" camera where the viewfinder works in daylight when you can carry a 10" device where the viewfinder is near impossible to see in broad daylight. And who cares about optical zoom when you can use digital zoom to future degrade an already crappy image.
Actually I've only seen one case where recording with an iPad/tablet was more practical than using a camera or camcorder. As a wrestling coach it's extremely difficult to record and coach using traditional tools. The iPad has a big enough view finder that it is easy to see the both the screen and the match at the same time. Some coaches just use the iPad viewfinder to view the match. Since all wrestling events are indoors you don't have the screen bleached out. =X= |

Update Best Buy, Staples and Future Shop Canada have added "Pre Orders" to their company web store.
In addition to Game Stop, Staples will also be caring the Nexus 7" in their Brick and Mortar store. Staples has mentioned they will carry both models =X= |

There are an increasing number of foreign language apps that do real time OCR. Back cams aren't just for photos. And while a 10" device might indeed make someone look silly, that's kind of what tourism is about.

The nearest location is about 3 miles, I can play with one they hopefully put on display first but if not, I still would have 14 days to rip it apart at home! The poor little thing doesn't know what it is in for and hopefully it won't overheat during that time. I probably will use it more than anyone else during that time. ![]() |

A Google dev explains why the Nexus doesn't have an external SD card.

Also the Nexus' filesystem is ext3 and not a hybrid of ext3/Fat32 which will make the device that much faster when accessing data. =X= Last edited by =X=; 07-09-2012 at 05:39 PM. Reason: added title |
