Sansa Clip Zip 8GB on Sale for $40 at Costco

If I load a book or music onto a microSD card for the Clip Zip and then plug it into my car radio, will the radio carry it OK, or must the material be in the Clip Zip's memory?

I don't see why it wouldn't. I play music, audiobooks, and podcasts from mSD cards all the time through my iPod's speaker dock. Just choose the "card" menu and not the "music" or "books" menu.

Clip+ work just fine in the aux in on my car radio.

Does the Clip Zip have a sleep timer that can be set to automatically turn the device off? I didn't see that mentioned in the User Manual, but I may have overlooked it.

Yes by default I think it's 10 minutes. I have mine set to 5 minutes. It's under settings/system.

Settings --> System Settings --> scroll down to Sleep (5th one)

Black Friday is just over 4 months away and there are usually some very good deals on the Clips then. Stores to watch will be Amazon, Best Buy, Costco, and RadioShack. Until then, it doesn't hurt to check these stores every now then.

The Clips are currently on a two-year release cycle:

• Sansa Clip (Oct 07)
• Sansa Clip+ (Aug 09)
• Sansa Clip Zip (Aug 11)

In my experience you can go to the service desk and ask for a free day pass. They charge something like 2-5% extra if you buy anything.

Thanks for mentioning that. Last time I tried (some years ago) they didn't allow it, but perhaps their policy has changed.

Edit: I just phoned the nearest Costco. I was told that they do not have free day passes. Nonmembers can shop at their pharmacy, etc., but not electronics. Oh well.

You can get the 4GB version on Amazon for just under $40 in a variety of colors. I own this and with a big SD Card the internal memory really isn't a problem. I paid $30 for mine last Black Friday. I got the blue one. I should of went with orange. (easier to see) If I buy another one it will be orange. The 8GB only comes in black or grey. I have no problem paying $40 for another 4GB version. They are just that nice!
