3 things that would make Kindle Touch better
I love my kindle it has brought me much joy and wisdom! There are a few things that it doesn't do however that I think would make it even better.
1. Page numbers - so I can have a more accurate idea of how much reading I've accomplished. 2. A function that allows you to highlight words you don't know the definition of and localises them all to the same place along with their definition so you can find a list of all the words you want to learn on one page. 3. The capacity to generate some sort of recommended reading list based on the books mentioned in the book you are reading. Often I'll read a book and the author will mention other books and instead of writing them down or highlighting them it would be so much better for there to be a way of adding books you are interested in to some sort of list. |

I thought the number display was more to do with the Kindle model rather than the book? I know that the kindle keyboard and kindle 4 display page numbers but the touch just has location and percentage whichever book I seem to choose.

No, it's to do with the book. Most Kindle books now have page numbers defined (in a file with a ".apnx" extension). This only applies to books bought from Amazon.

This isn't my experience at all, I have several books from amazon but no page numbers. Is there a free book from amazon you can recommend which displays the page numbers that I can try to download to see?

Sorry - all the books I've bought from Amazon are bought, not free. But I honestly don't recall there being one book that I've bought in the last year that hasn't had page numbers.

Thanks for the reply, I downloaded Too Many Sisters but as with every other book I've saved on the touch I just get Loc and %
This is leading me to believe that .apnx capacity is somehow disabled on my Kindle. I bought a kindle 4 for a friend and put some books from my collection on it, though the books are the same (the same files) the page numbers are displayed on their kindle 4 but not on my touch. Also the kindle keyboard I had before showed page numbers with the same books. I think it's a hardware/firmware issue rather than a file issue. |

See the attached image: Look for the circled note on the Amazon book page. If you don't see this note the book does not contain page numbers, at least in my experience.
Your second point probably would not have enough popularity to warrant be added by Amazon, though it is an interesting option, especially for school children. Your third point would be a good option, though perhaps better implemented through the Amazon website than the Kindle. I think the website sort of unofficially does this on a limited scale. I notice that down the page are a few titles listed that seem to be similar to the one selected. |

Please read the darn manual to learn how to operate your Kindle Touch. I'm sure it will be enlightening and helpful. |

I wasn't aware that it was possible to view page numbers by clicking on the menu bar, great to know! Though I don't understand why it doesn't appear by default where Loc is (which is useless to a lot of people) surely thats the most obvious feature for an ereader, to display the page as opposed to Loc.
Anyway I'm happy to have discovered this and to those getting impatient remember that you are under absolutely no obligation to reply to me if you don't want to. Great that it's in the manual but why should such a basic feature require menu tapping, I consider the lack of page display on the page itself a unecessary flaw for something that can be easily remedied. |
