Although I'm in agreement with you about the inconvenience of this change (why not leave it at the top-level of the menu?), adding KF8 support is the #1 feature of this firmware upgrade, and that (for me) would vastly outweigh the inconvenience of the WiFi menu item location.

I often read using Kindle, Kindle for iPad and Kindle for iPhone, pretty much in equal measure, meaning I'm quite often having to turn wifi on on my kindle, sync last page, then turn off wifi.

Since the new update, after opening my book on my Kindle, get the last page read, I then have to CLOSE the book again, open settings, enable aeroplane mode, then re-open the book! Very very annoying.

If everybody reports their annoyance with the placement of the menu item to Kindle CS, they may very well move it in the next firmware update. Amazon do listen to customer feedback.

I wrote to them and complained about it and so should we all so they revert it.

Just popped off an email. In the meantime, I'm keeping Airplane Mode turned on (except when I add new content twice a month). That means no new adds flowing to my K4 on a daily basis. What say you, Mr Advertiser?

The cynic in me sees this "upgrade" by Amazon as a ploy to get us to keep WiFi always on, so that new ads will always flow to our devices. That keeps the advertisers happy.

I only ever turn on my WiFi for 5 minutes about once a month, when I get the "connect to download new ads" message on the homepage. The rest of the time it stays off, to increase battery life.

I turned it on daily to check for Special Offers (for the thread). But since it appears that Amazon has stopped the Special Offers, there's no point checking for them anymore.

Got a reply; and the response I expected. They quoted the Airplane Mode section of the upgrade and forwarded my comments.

Me too, my reading is shared about 33% each between iPad 3, K4NT and iPhone 4, so I'm quite often having to sync last page read...

I only read on my Kindle, so I have no need to sync.
