But even your example is kind of strange and does not feel relevant with how the net works nowadays. Caps for permanent connections to the internet are very strange and caps so low as 20G seems to me to be absurd. |

That, of course, is merely your opinion.

Streaming music is a huge one, you can't even listen to online radio with our internet, our neighbour was listening to a few hours a day and they got called by the ISP saying that they are the second most bandwidth user in the town. Last edited by The Terminator; 07-04-2012 at 07:26 PM. |

Third parties can buy access to the last mile to the subscribers home. The equipment provider gets a mandated rate from the third party which is guaranteed to give them an agreed rate of return on their investment. The amount and price of bandwidth offered to the subscriber is determined by the third party. If you compare internet access and charges in the UK or Europe to North American charges there are more choices, offering more service at lower prices than anyone could dream of in North America. And BT, Orange, France Telecom, Deutsche Telekom, etc. are doing very nicely despite all that. All the "free marketeers" in North America, US and Canada, would run a mile from a real free market. What they have instead is a locked in monopoly, which suits them just fine. North American internet is pitiful. |

It has a new screen unlock feature seen Here
It's face unlock using the webcam like ICS, but it has "Liveness Check" so you have to blink when it tells you too. Pretty awesome IMO, that's what I'm going to use. Last edited by The Terminator; 07-05-2012 at 06:00 PM. |

Ah my friend, just because we are the Land of the Free doesn't mean that you don't have to pay for your lunch.
I can see it now. "That will be $30 please." That is strange. What for? "For your bandwidth usage." That is absurd! "No, it is $30." That is ridiculous. "No it isn't. It is spelled out on the menu. So much for lunch and so much for the bandwidth you use during lunch. You only had water, but you did download several HD Blu-Ray movies of questionable provenance and low morality I might add but that is none of my business. However the bandwidth usage comes to $30. Good news though. The water is free. Courtesy of the Land of the Free." Last edited by SeaKing; 07-05-2012 at 02:29 AM. |

Teksavvy is a move in the right direction but it's fairly limited in coverage. It's not in some provinces at all, and afaik cable is only available in selected areas in BC, ON and PQ. It helps keep Bell, Rogers and Shaw somewhat honest but it's not the out and out competitive environment there is in Europe. And OFCOM may have its faults, but anything is better than the CRTC.
