I like to read in Starbucks and I have been approached almost daily about my reader. Sometimes for advice whether they should buy one, and sometimes just out of curiosity about the actual reading experience is on the device.

The people seated next to me asked about it on both flights I took on Wednesday. They were intrigued.

Just stood in line for several hours to pick up a new Apple iPhone but had my Sony reader along to while away the time. And ended up giving several demos to interested fellow line-standers

Love my Sony. Made two and a half hours go a lot faster than it would have had I just stood there watching mall rats and soccer moms wandering around the shopping center.

I went to my favourite japanese reastaurant on Friday.

Was sat next to a group of people who were just finishing up their meals. They paid the bill, then walked past me. The guy stops after noticing my reader and starts asking questions.

The 2 girls come back and have a look too, and pretty much agree that the screen is fantastic.

The table gets refilled with a guy and a girl. Again the guy notices the reader and starts asking about it wanted a demo, couldn't believe the quality of the screen.

Which reader did you have with you, the Sony or the iLiad?

I have had this happen a few times.

With my 505, I've been asked about it at work - which makes sense since that is where I usually use it (to read during my lunch break).

While traveling, the only time I've been asked about my eBook was when I was borrowing my husband's Franklin reader (this is back a few years) while flying between Kansas City and Orlando. The flight attendant stopped by a few times to ask about it.

Yeah, I get looks and sometimes questions. Especially in waiting rooms I get asked, not so much in the train but I see them ogling my lovely PRS-500.

I used to have to demo it a lot while over in the US. But I just get the surreptitious glances in the UK.

I think trying to explain what it was to the customs agents in Bermuda was the most arduous ordeal. But once they understood (and knew I'd already paid duty on it) they thought it was great!

Usually, it is flight attendents who ask me. They obviously share the same desire to travel light as all of us do. Most other people just give second glances, but don't ask.

I guess the first time would be good. I just bought mine on July 10 and while waiting for my flight to Germany on Sunday, a gentleman asked about it. He wanted to know to know if it was the new one. I told him it was the 505 and I think he was impressed with the screen clarity. Then on the flight, another gentleman sitting next to me asked about it. So, from my point a view, it seems like a lot of interest. :-)

Last weekend I went to see a movie at a local film center (so not a typical theater), and was reading a bit waiting for the movie to start. I heard the woman two seats down say to her husband, "Oh look, she has one of those ebook things!" and he said "Yes, that's the Amazon Kindle." I was tempted to turn and correct him, but decided it wasn't worth the trouble and I'd rather be reading, anyway.

I'll be flying for the first time with mine tomorrow. I've had it a couple of months now, and have only had one perosn comment on it--he had a Sony 500 and wanted to take a look at my 505.

Maybe "Kindle" will become the generic name for ebook readers, like "Kleenex" for tissues. I think I'll start telling everyone my Sony is a Kindle.
