I agree with the sounds of waves, rain, being relaxing.

But electricity while you're camping? Heat other than a fire? That's... just not camping

The point I was really trying to make is that SD card storage can come in very handy, wherever you are when away from home—even camping in the great outdoors.

Well in that case I recommend San Felipe during hurricane season. For only $10 a night you can get a beach all to yourself. You'll have a first class view of the hurricane bearing down on you. Wind, rain, waves and sand oh and 0 visibility. You might find it serine and relaxing I found I was scared as hell.

A sound and sensible decision.

Unless you are writing reports, you usually don't need the traditional computer with keyboard and mouse. I guess blogging (like right now) is similar to writing reports and I would get tired of a tablet's input. Maybe one day I will learn to touch type on a tablet but I am probably too old and my hands are too big to learn now.

I used to carry a laptop and then a net-book because I wanted a larger screen to see a GPS map on. When the tablets came out, I saw an alternative that works well.

I see so the only vacation you take is camping trips? I love camping, but I would not want to limit myself to camping. Experiencing other cultures is an experience I relish.

I loved moving from my laptop to a netbook years ago. Lighter weight, less heat, less noise, I was never going back. Now I'm looking to make the same move to a tablet. I won't do without a keyboard myself, but indeed, to each their own. I'm amazed how many people in this thread know what others need better than the others know themselves.

I enjoyed tent camping as a kid and tolerated it as an adult. When yurts became readily available, I ditched tents altogether. Now I can still enjoy the park setting, but at a much higher comfort level.

They even have deluxe yurts with beds for seven, bathroom, shower, kitchen, refrigerator, microwave, TV/DVD, etc. With a TV/DVD, I wouldn't need a tablet.

There are some nice portable keyboards made for tablets. I have this Logitech Tablet Keyboard for Android 3.0+ that works great with my Acer Iconia tablets. It connects via Bluetooth. There are USB keyboards too.

I totally agree with David's succinct description, but I went beyond that:
- Android proposition for future mobile devices is of specific interest for me.
- I don't feel need for (yet another) cloud device, I need fully functional computer that offers cloud services.
- IMHO, Google, in their narrow vision of "cloud is everything" is playing directly against their own interests. Simply put, it is Apple who delivered on that front first, who now owns the concept of (so defined) tablet, and any attempt to provide "a cheap(er) tablet" or "iPad killer" has a big chance to end up as an inferior wannabe.

Isn't it?

Google, when everything is said and done, is a company, with their own agenda and interests. They are "good" when their business model is acceptable to most of us, "bad" when we feel that they go directly against our interests. Google has not practised heavy-handed approach in the past, but I have no guarantees that this will stay so. And I do believe that stakes are high and that we are witnessing a transition that will shape the technology for a long time. I am old enough to remember that Microsoft was once perceived as "good guys", when they fought and brought down IBM's monopoly. Once bitten, twice shy.

Sigh... The vendors, bless them, are still clueless when it comes to handling the open source.

The one who has access to the source of infrastructure, is not limited only to offering software that sits on top of the infrastructure. They can carve a vertical software layer and pack whatever they want into the system. Drivers, anything.

Samsung is powerful hardware house, there is no doubt that they will make a pile of money... but the major impact on the end game I expect from Canonical. I hate the guts of "Unity" desktop, but that's precisely what Android world needs to differentiate themselves against iPad.

Is this suppose to be a counter argument, because I totally agree with you. It seems like a huge waste of money to spend several grand on a vacation to park your arse and read. I've tried it several times and it drives me nuts.

Also are you talking about Vacation or camping? They are not the same thing. Camping is an subset of vacationing.

People can take vacation to experience another culture or to be pampered.
Exactly. That is why our idea of "camping" is staying at a Motel 6.
Otherwise, when my wife and I go on vacation, we stay at $600 a night luxury suites... (that we get for $75 a night...she's queen of bargain shopping)

Just found out yesterday that our internet rules are changing, we get 20GB a month now and are charged $10 a gig after that, they used to just slow you down to a crawl if you went over it, but now we really have to watch it.

But I wasn't planning on watching online movies anyway, but now especially. I still will when I'm not home and have a decent connection.

20GB a month? I don't think I could run the security updates on all the machines in the house on that, let alone surf anything. Who is your ISP?
