And yet there are cases were kindles bought on eBay have turned out to be blacklisted, which means no registration or wifi. eBay rectified the situation for most but not all the cases.

Since one of the main features of the Kindle is wifi not having access to it is problematic for most people. When you can buy a refurb from reputable store for a bit more, why take the risk?

E-bay seller is 100%. No neutrals, no negatives, no revised feedback.
All comments on positive feedback are excellent. Ebayer for 12 years.

Thanks for the comforting thought, HarryT.
I was starting to feel a bit like henny-penny. ( at Shopaholic)

I PROMISE the next K I buy will be through Amazon

Also, just purchase the additional warranty from Square Trade, so I'm covered if the sky should fall.

I bough my DX from ebay for $100, and some K3s (3G, no ads) with leather covers for $80, which made it worth it. But for the little you would save on a K4 or K5 (touch), I would just buy new (and I did buy two K4s and a K5 new direct from amazon).

I live in Canada, so a K4 no ads is $109 here. I do live close enough to the state line to shop in the US, though I don't have a passport, so I must rely on DH to pick up my purchases @ the parcel handling service.

I got this for $55 for a K4- no ads- a silicone skin & a case (hoping it's AMZN)

BUT after shipping ($8) & now the extra warranty ($11) I just bought, I think it's now exactly "half a dozen of one, six of another". No savings. Just a free silicone skin and cover...

I could have bought a K4 refurb with ads from AMZN for $70 with free shipping & had factory warranty. I just hope I have as good of luck with my purchase, as you have had with yours, GeekMaster.

Again, thanks to all for your time & advice.
I will post on this thread to let you all know the outcome, even if it proves embarrassing.....

It took a lot of TIME to find such great deals on ebay, so in the end it probably cost more, if my time has any value. The great ebay deals do not come around very often, and usually close late at night when there is less activity. The BEST ebay deals are the ones that close on major holidays, when everybody is busy. You do not need monitor a bunch of auctions and "snipe" amazon purchases, which are always available, and the new SO kindles are quite affordable (and the ads are not THAT annoying).

Ah, but Caveat emptor (let the buyer beware) is still a good thing to keep in mind. Just because a deal looks good doesn't always mean it is. In fact the opposite is far more likely to be the case if the deal is too good. And there is no harm in being cautious I don't think.

After all, mother always said, "If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is."

I didn't think my "deal" was so good, as to fall into this description. But I will find out.

Luck is usually RECOGNIZING an opportunity, then having the guts to commit to it, which leaves others who were not paying attention or afraid to go for it, wishing that they were so "lucky". Usually, you make your own luck (planned serendipity).

But then again, I have heard that it is easier for girls to "get lucky" than guys.

Sometimes Good Things Happen...

OK! So I'm back with m e-bay purchased Kindle.

I took it out of the box, and gasped- THIS IS NOT WHAT I ORDERED!!!!

As you may, or may not recall, I ordered a K4.....

However, I was sent a Kindle Keyboard 3G. Really. No BS-ing.
With a case, a silicon skin, and a totally unmentioned power adapter plug (for the included USB cable).

The seller also included the original box.

I registered the K3G to my Amazon account, no problems.

SO, in the end I ended up with a damn good bargain.

Now, I just have to see if I can contact "SquareTrade" about my warranty, which is the wrong one for the price point of the K3G.

That is really cool! Unless he sent your K4 to someone else, and you got someone else's K3. In that situation, the other buyer will not be too happy. (You can check his completed listings to see if this is a possibility). Didn't the listing have pics of what he was selling? Or was it just a stock photo?

I have 2 K3's and they are great. Use one or the other of them every day.
