Note that the heuristic algorithm is pretty good, but not 100% perfect. If you don't want to use Calibre you can also test the "Smarten Punctuation" feature with DiapDealer's SmartyPants Python wrapper. (Both use the same python script.)

902 on XP repeatable. Open a Epub. Open a section using the book browser: (do nothing else) Now right-click in the Vertical scrollbar- select bottom. Bingo! If you do anything ON the page, selecting bottom does not chrash |

 Epub causes crash

Attached epub causes the beta to crash on Windows Vista 64 bit. It does open in calibre and in epubreader. Even if it is malformed, which I will investigate, it needs to fail more gracefully. It does not crash in .5.3. Last edited by mrmikel; 07-01-2012 at 06:52 AM. |

Re: Epub causes crash: It does crash on my compiled version of 0.5.902 under Ubuntu 12.04. Any fix may not be able to do more than display an error before crashing, if that, depending on what it is.

Validates with errors: OEBPS/Text/_page_map_.xml This resource is present in the OPF <manifest>, but it's not reachable (it's unused). OEBPS/content.opf line 55 The <item> element's "media-type" attribute has value "application/oebps-page-map+xml", but the file's media type is "application/xhtml+xml". OEBPS/content.opf line 57 The "page-map" attribute is not an allowed attribute of the <spine> element.

The proprietary Adobe page map file and media-type will always show up as an error/warning in the various ePub validators... it's not spec, after all. But it shouldn't cause any crashes (NOTE: I'm not saying that IS what's causing the crashing).

Epub causes crash This file does not have content.opf, but volume.opf which contains what I believe would be in content.opf. It seems to be allowable, but it does not seem to be common. |

ETA: but Sigil will "normalize" it upon first loading, though. Last edited by st_albert; 07-01-2012 at 01:00 PM.

There is another book with identical issue. Load into .5.3 and save doing nothing. Then loads ok in the beta. Looks like isn't looking for volume in the beta maybe? |
