I doubt Microsoft or Apple will introduce the $200 tablet, but there is a good chance that a vendor will introduce a $200 Windows 8 tablet (and Microsoft will probably subsidize the licensing fees to ensure that comes about). I wish that the Windows thing would come out sooner though, since I'm looking for a new computer before moving to the north in the fall. As things stand, I will probably end up buying a normal laptop. |

Nice to see they kept the quad core processor from the scrapped asus tablet. Anyone have any idea how canadian availability will work? Shipping from US with the duties that entails or ???

I'll be ordering mine next week. Unfortunately they left out the microSD slot, but one can always just use Dropbox.

EDIT: Apparently it is made in the US. Items manufactured in the US do not have duty added to them when purchased in Canada. NOPE, it is the Q that is US made. Last edited by taming; 06-28-2012 at 09:42 AM. Reason: manufacturing

Don't hold your breath, Attila. I ran through the shopping process and there was GST. Alberta does not have PST, so no HST. 2 day delivery added another $19.xx

If it comes by Canada Post it's a crap shoot whether you pay extra or not. Maybe it depends on the value. I can't see them letting something over $200 through without making a profit. Sometimes it goes right through, other times you get dinged HST and brokerage. UPS always gets you. If not at the door, then there's a UPS shipping method called "World Ease" which includes HST and brokerage, but you see that when you order so you can not put the purchase through if it's unreasonable.

Exactly! Crap shoot is right! My last 2 orders, one for luggage, the other for an antenna both had duty and brokerage fees added to them. The previous 3 items I purchased in the US including a$400 towel warmer didn't.

I was wrong. It is the Q (also announced yesterday) that is US made. http://news.cnet.com/8301-1001_3-574...-in-the-u.s.a/ In my defense, I think I saw a report that said the tablet was made there too. Last edited by taming; 06-28-2012 at 09:41 AM. |

There is no duty because it ships from Google Canada, in Toronto. I ordered one and that is what it says on the receipt.

Nexus 7 does sound good. Same price as the Vox in 8GB outfit with quad core CPU and twelve core GPU. No uSD card kind of sucks but I do have a 50GB Box account, Dropbox, Google Drive, MS Skydrive so lots of cloud storage available. Will need streaming as my 32GB PlayBook and card in my Vox are pretty full. How is the standard Android Kobo app? Still won't show the graphic novels? |
