This is the semi-annual double issue. It was great, of course, maybe even better than usual. The motif of memory seems to be the theme for this issue. The story Memory Dog would surprise me if it doesn't get nominated for a Nebula or something.

Started: Year's Best SF 13 (2007)

I love short stories!

This is from the Acknowledgement page:

We would like to acknowledge the
hindrance of the unknown forger
who deposited a fake $36,000.00
check drawn on our account a
month before this book was due,
and created time-consuming havoc
for weeks until it was completely
resolved in our favor. He or she
made this book infinitely more
difficult to complete. We would
further like to acknowlege the
sympathy and support of our
publisher under these awkward
circumstances.

Bad Lands by Tony Wheeler. In dead-tree form though. It was very good, interesting tourist glimpse into some places that most people wouldn't dream of visiting.

I like YA literature as well. City of Ember was pretty good. I'll be interested in your comments when you're done.

Movie? There's a movie? I liked both City of Ember and its sequel The People of Sparks.

Okay -- just went to Duprau's web site and saw the link to the movie trailer. And, there's a third book in the series, The Prophet of Yonwood, a prequel to City of Ember, and it's out in Kindle format. Might be worth looking for in other eBook formats if you're not a Kindle owner.

Ok, just finished The Baker's Boy. Not sure if I liked it enough to get the next two books of "The Book of Words" series. Does anyone know if they get better?

Also, not sure I want to go back to Star Dragon, it was going to slow and dragging... does it get any better?

I started reading Four and Twenty Blackbirds based on someone here, Dixie or Daffy, saying what an excellent book it was.

Cool thanks. Only two chapters in so far.

I have a bunch of new stuff I want to buy/read... but I feel guilty spending money on books when I have all these free TOR books I have yet to read.

I know, me too. My project for this coming weekend is going to be putting all of my books into EBW Librarian, which I emailed to my AOL account. If I can make it work, hopefully I'll be able to access one master book list from anywhere, instead of having bits and pieces on various computers. It's getting hard to know what is unread, so I've got categories set up in the Librarian called "Finished Reading" and "To Be Read." If this idea works, I can download all freebies and purchases directly to the master Librarian. If it doesn't, well, all I've lost is some time.

I'm currently reading In the Midnight Hour by Patti O'Shea, one of the free books from TOR, also free for the Kindle at Amazon. I'm starting chapter 8, and really enjoying the book. I think I may have discovered yet another genre -- paranormal romance.

Also currently reading Prophet, third in the Oracle trilogy by Mike Resnick, purchased from Fictionwise (multi-format, DRM-free version).

Older stuff but they are the ones I prefer from her. The stories move faster.
