It will be interesting to see how many MAJOR publishers Amazon signed with. And if they allow Amazon to discount. Last edited by Top100EbooksRank; 06-26-2012 at 12:31 PM. |

That's good news. I'll check it out when I visit Tokyo next time. Hope the price will be attractive.

That is indeed good news. Good for Amazon for finally letting this happen.

I'll wait to see the ebook selection before deciding to get it or not. It is exciting news though.

Oh please, please let there be Japanese textbooks and J-E dictionaries. Between Kobo and Kindle, somebody has to help us students of Japanese!

I read the Japanese news few months ago and a lot of publishers there felt they were really pressured into getting a deal with Amazon.

http://paidcontent.org/2012/04/18/kindlejapan/ Taking a look back at previous news reports, we can see that the delays are getting more than a little tired: October 2011: Nikkei Business Daily says Amazon is in late stage negotiations, and could enter e-book market sometime in 2011, bringing the Kindle as well. December 2011: Kyodo News reports Amazon does not have enough publishers on board, and the new target date could be spring 2012. February 2012: Nikkei Business Daily (again) says that the Kindle e-book reader will sell in Japan as early as April, with free data via Docomo’s 3G network. Sony's Japanese PRS-T1 comes with the third edition of Daijirin 大辞林 but the implementation is less than stellar. It only shows up on the bottom so if the text you are trying to select is at the bottom of the page it sometimes takes several attempts. Also the jumping icons won't work in book mode, only in stand alone mode. Amazon has a whole wide open field thay can counter.

Japanese books can be read from left to right, top to bottom.
It is true though that traditionally Japanese books are written vertically going from right to left, that is how the books in the Sony are reproduced. I have some PD books in the Kindle and they are all organized like Western scripts. |

Looking forward to this, and wonder how the battle with Kobo will go there.
Has anyone heard anything recently about the Brazilian Kindle store? It was targeted for this summer. |
