Is there a 0% warning after that, when the battery pack won't work anymore?
"Completely dead" is when the 10% charge warning has come and gone and the unit has shut itself down due to no internal battery power at all. (There is no 0% warning given.) You are correct in that you have to plug the battery pack in ASAP after the warning. I usually plug it in sooner than that if I'm settled in for some time and know I'm going to need it. That way I use the pack where it's the "least inconvenient" (eg once I'm settled into my plane seat and know I won't be going anywhere for a few hours) and then I still have some internal power to use where/when it's more convenient (eg. when I'm reading in shorter bursts, like when I'm in a queue on the ground, or waiting for the luggage carousel to start delivering bags).

Yes, this one is for the Kobo Touch, but it works on my vox. It does not affect the battery level indicator - if it reads 10% when I plug in the battery pack, it will still read (and be at) 10% while I am using the pack and when I stop using it. The pack doesn't charge the internal battery at all, nor does it change the internal battery level indicator reading.

Also, forgot to add that this battery pack has an on/off switch...don't know if that's a big feature to anyone.

He is so upset about not being able to use his kobo vox.
When I got my Kobo Vox for Christmas the first thing I wanted was a car charger, so I called around and found one a Chapters here in Edmonton. I thing it was about $20.00, but it is kept behind the check out counter, so you have to ask for it. I was pleasantly surprised to discover it also has a wall charger built into it. I hope this helps.

1. A charger has to be at least 2 amps to work with the Vox.

2. Even with 2 amps, the battery charge indicator will not show correctly until you reboot or connect it to a genuine Vox charger because of the special USB cable.

I misplaced my Vox charger elsewhere in my vehicle during a recent three week road trip. The Vox battery was at 60% once I started using the battery pack. The battery worked quite well to keep the Vox at the 60% for the entire three weeks. Usage varied of course but some days I might used the Vox for 2 or 4 hours while reading a book in a motel/hotel room with no light over my shoulder for a Touch.

Thought I'd bring up this old thread. I just found an external battery pack with lots of capacity that should work with the Vox (although not with the charge indicator I would presume). Check it out. Shipping is free from this place.

Yeah, I cannot believe OEM chargers were not made available from the beginning.

Yes but $30!!! It's essentially the same as the BlackBerry chargers available for $10 to $20 except for that stupid proprietary tip.

A 2 amp Blackberry charger for $10 $20? Why haven't we been buying these all along? The battery indicator will reset to normal after a reboot.
