Judge sets date for DOJ vs Apple et al

Apple asked for a speedy trial so Judge Cote set the date for June 3, 2013. And the DOJ along with all 50 states expect to settle with the three publishers by August 10th and then submit it to the Judge. http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/...85M00620120623 http://paidcontent.org/2012/06/23/do...r-june-3-2013/ |

The defendants opted non-jury. I guess they are looking to focus more on legal issues in their defense. From Bloomberg: Quote:

June 3, 2013? Oh for gods sake. This is going to take forever. Any word on when the settlement is going to be reviewed?

Apple wanted the speedy trial. Sometime this year. But the DOJ said they needed more time and they got it from Judge Cote. Also, the settling publishers submitted a request to be a "non party" to the lawsuit which means they don't have to provide evidence during the discovery phase or otherwise offer documents/facts to help either Apple or the DOJ. Naturally, the DOJ is angered by this and disagrees saying it's not part of the initial settlement agreement. |
