The X-ray will probably be fine. They want you to limit that type of thing when pregnant but it will take more than one or two X-rays to damage the fetus. Heck, I drank for 6 nights in a row when I was three weeks pregnant, one beer a night and I didn't know. I am not worried for the baby.

As for the cat, that is a personal call. She should not change the litter box and the cat should not be allowed in the nursery with the baby unsupervised. Other than that, all should be fine.

There's a wonderful short story about someone doing research in music and sound, working on why some tunes stick in the mind. Unfortunately, he discovers one that puts the mind into an infinite loop, re-playing the tune over and over again.

Reminiscent of Monty Python's deadly joke. I wish I could remember the title or author!

thanks guys. they may decide to leave the baby here in the philippines with us, but i doubt that once the baby is born.

anyway, it's unbearably hot here. everyone's getting sick/headaches

After a period where spam was mostly about poker/gambling sites there is another wave that is supposedly coming from banks. But they're not really believable:

The title says that they want to take money from your bank account with bank A (haven't got an account with them). In the body it tells you that they need to take the €500 from your account with bank B (do have an account with them) and it tells you it's from the tax office. However, the email it's supposedly sent from ends with @bankC.nl (no bank account with them either).

Last week there was a wave with emails where they did get the title, body and email address right.

Occasionally one slips through the spam filter. I wished there was an add-on for Thunderbird where when you press the spam button it would make a bomb going off sound and show a fireball when deleting the email.

One would suppose that the Thai consulate in one city would require the same application forms and documents for a particular type of visa as any other Thai consulate for the same particular type of visa. But one would be mistaken....

One consulate says I need 5 documents x 4 copies. Another says I need 7 documents x 3 copies. One says I need to have certain documents notarized, another says I don't need to. But as ALL the consulates send the applications to the Embassy for processing, how can there be a difference?

One thing they all seem to agree on; I need to pay $220 application fee... non-refundable should the visa be denied.

I don't like bureaucrats.

I hate to ask, since I have no personal knowledge of the region, but perhaps the staff expect something more than the official fee?

Bureaucrats are a necessary part of society. But they need to be competent and virtuous. A hard combination to find and maintain if the salary is small and the honours few.
