Error communicating with device - Kobo eReader after 0.8.56 update

Hello,

After I updated Calibre to 0.8.56 it could not detect my Kobo eReader. I tried replugging and reinstalling multiple times with no luck. Also, all of my Library books from the previous version disappeared.

I know there are beta testers, and product managers from Kobo, on this board. Is anyone aware of any dialog between Kobo and Kovid Goyal about this problem? I've seen it referenced more than once, but I've never seen anything regarding a Kobo response or position on the issue.

I would hope part of that $315 million could help find a solution?
