I am wondering if it's time to split the forum between the kindle touch + and the kindle 3.3 and - there seems to be quite an active dev on the kindle touch flooding the kindle thread (which is good) but also render a little difficult searching for k3 only dev - also to mention that there is not a lot of hack/dev that are working on both version apart duokan and other alike...

There is a lot of k3/dx/dxg activity here too, if you can recognize it. In fact, the VAST MAJORITY of posts here are from before the K4 and K5 were released. The threads are typically named for the project rather than the devices that they support. The launchpad and myts and muPDF programs are for k3 and earlier, and there other active projects that do not support new kindles.
Even IF there were yet another k3 forum, google searches for k3 stuff would probably continue to bring k3 users to THIS forum. It does not make sense to abandon this forum that contains a vast wealth of k3 posts just because there is a lot of recent activity for newer models. And there is a growing code base of stuff that runs on ALL kindle models (based on stuff that I and others have published here), so why fragment that across two forums? It DOES make sense to keep the eink kindles and the non-eink kindles (fire) in separate forums, because they are very different in both software and hardware design and implementation. But in my opinion, eink kindle development should stay together, here. Last edited by geekmaster; 06-02-2012 at 04:04 PM. |

Please, pretty please, with a cherry on top: Colored tags for (at least) each Kindle model on this subforum... (I believe the mods called this feature 'forum prefixes' the last two times it was discussed...). Tiny forum feature request rant aside, I fully agree with geekmaster. The K3 is still alive and well here ![]() |

What we could do is start a STICKY that contains a master index to wiki pages and active and useful threads here, sorted by kindle model.
The reason for wiki pages is so that a single person is not stuck with maintaining it. We do have a hacks sticky, but it has grown somewhat disorganized and the first post large and not regularly maintained. So, for best organization with support and maintenance by many users, we need a (rarely-changed) sticky that points to a bunch of model-specific and topic-specific wiki pages, which are to become INDEXES back into the forum. Suggestions and improvements to this idea are welcome. EDIT: I started a new "Kindle Developer's Corner Master Index" thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=180113 When it deserves that status, it will get "stickied". EDIT: Done! yes I see that it make sense to keep it here - I just see a huge difference between kindle fire and e-ink device and if it had been splitted at the beggining it would have been nice.
I like your idea geekmaster to start a sticky post with the main projects. I started a wiki page for the k3 - but haven't kept up the work. Still a main reference for me. |

Your thread title is not about the kindle fire though -- it is about the k3 (kindle keyboard) which is an eink device. |

No way the K3 gets its own dev sub-forum before the K2 does.

Now you can find the K3-only threads (that are prefixed) by selecting the K3 prefix and pressing the "Show Threads" button. As long as people assign a K3 prefix to new K3 threads, it will ACT like a K3-only forum.
