On my blog today I ask the question many writers are considering: To Self-Publish or Not to Self-Publish?

Up until I finished this novel recently, I fully intended to shop it around to agents, the final aim being New York. Now faced with that prospect, and just how long a road it would be before I'd finally see my book in print (*if* it sells) I'm not sure I want to go that route any more.

The Heroines With Heart Book Tour spans 100 cities in the US and Canada, starting Jan. 2013. It'll be made up primarily of indie authors and there will be different authors at each location, and we'll be releasing more information to the public starting in July 2012. Authors who participate in the tour also get:

Pre-Tour Promotion

30-page inclusion (per book series) in free digital samplers that will be promoted online
National PR campaign to promote the on-the-ground events
Local PR campaigns in each city where an event takes place
Local College, High School, and Book Club outreach
Heroines With Heart blog tour + contest (to promote the events)
Author interviews via Skype and posted to YouTube

On-Tour Promotion (75-100 attendees per event)

One of no more than five authors at the event
Inclusion in the event goodie bag (through either a program or a print sampler)
Opportunity to pre-sell books and sell books at the event

Post-Tour Promotion

YouTube videos of the event, including interviews with authors and fun side videos (car trip, etc.)

Planning, Promotion, Travel, and Lodging:

At the event, everything will be covered, including all the planning and promotion, the venue, the printing costs for the program or print sampler (if we have the budget), the goodie bags, and any food/drinks we offer. We'll also bring pens and tables and anything else you'll need to do signings. Travel will likely be via an SUV/van rental so we can haul books and luggage and goodie bags around, and lodging will likely be shared with a roommate or two. Expenses are only covered for the author (not family or friends) and authors are responsible for their own meals and for travel to and from the pick-up/drop-off points (though if we can spring for a group meal here and there, we will, depending on the budget).

While most of the event participation is free, we require a small registration fee to maintain a high quality group of authors.

Hi, all! I would really appreciate your input on something. We have a bunch of books in the pipeline at ReAnimus Press, and would like to get feedback on prioritizing them. That is, which of these are you most interested in? (They'll all get out there, of course, but this impacts various aspects of the process, like which we release first, budget for cover art, etc.) Here's your chance to help a publisher shape the process. Also, since we specialize in bringing print books into ebook format, are there any particular books you can't find available that you'd like to see in ebook form? We've had fairly good luck tracking down rightsholders and getting things moving. (Even if they ultimately go a different route, like self-publishing, that still gets the ebooks out there; which is cool by me -- my real dream is to see every book ever published available in ebook format. ReAnimus Press is just my way of doing something to help realize that dream in some small way.)
