Sony PRS-T1: SD card affects battery life?
Hello.
It makes sense that the added card will require more power, and that further power will be spent by the PDU indexing a large set of files on the card. I just bought a T1 to replace my broken 650 (who knew dropping repeatedly is bad?), and am wondering if I should buy a card or not. I'd like to have the added capacity, but not if the battery life tanks. For those of you with T1s and SD cards - have you noticed a large difference in battery performance? thanks, Andrew |

I've had an SD card installed in my T1 since even before I booted it up for the first time, so I couldn't tell you if there was any performance difference.
But as for how long my T1's battery lasts, it generally takes at least 4 days of continuous usage for the icon to drop by even 1 bar. I regularly spend around 3 hours on or waiting for public transit most days and read during most of that time, plus additional reading at breaks and between classes and sometimes in the evening, and I turn the wireless on and off so I can check stuff on the internet from time to time. Lately I've been finishing roughly 1 book per day (and additional shorts/novellas), and much of what I've been reading is between 150-250 pages. I only bother to recharge when the battery meter has dropped to half, which is roughly every other week for me. Hope this helps. |

your internal 1.4g will accomodate <> 2500 books on average , I have a 4gb sd ARD WHICH i USE AS A BACK-UP, THE MAIN DRAIN WITH THE CARD IS IF YOU ARE CONTINUALLY REMOVING IT AND ADDING IT BACK IN, i HAVE USED MY T1 WITH THE CARD INSERTED AND HAVE NOT NOTICED ANY REAL SUBSTANTIVE CHANGE IN THE BATTERY LIFE

If you have 2000 and more books I think it is better to turn off display of covers in book library and in collections. This way reader is more responsive and saves battery.
I use Calibre to manage my book collection. Calibre version 0.8.55 fixed a bug that was corrupting database of books on SD card. When I change from Kobo Touch to PRS-T1 i run Calibre welcome wizard telling it I'm using PRS-T. Calibre. When I plug connect PRS-T1 Calibre displays message that it detects the Sony reader but does not respond correctly unless I run the wizard changing settings. |

to the OP i usually only have to charge mine every 3-4 weeks and I've usually got my nose stuck in it for 3-4 hours a day. I don't use the wi-fi so i don't know what that would do to the battery life |
