Bevel Glare - Sunlight?
So, I haven't managed to use my PRS-T1 outside yet. Weather has been all over the place. Am going away in the next couple of weeks abroad, so it's going to be hot... therefore sunny.
Am wondering whether the bevel will be a distraction when reading outside, since it's pretty shiny? I'm going to need a case for travelling, but dunno whether to get one that covers the bevel, or one that just has those elastic corner holdings. Is the bevel easily scratched? Opinions would be great. Thanks. |

I used it only one time outside and the shiny bevel really was a big distraction. I bought a bevel covering case (the one from Gecko) and although it's not covering everything (the IR sensors plastic just around the screen is not covered) it definitely reduces the eye strain when reading - something that i hadn't noticed before the case.

use a bit of masking tape if it bothers you I haven't found it a distraction and I read in the garden most of the day, much cheaper than a case lol

I use a silicone slip on case. It does not cover the whole bevel. I was reading in bright sunlight in the car last week and never noticed any glare. I believe about 1/4" of the bevel is showing. The cheap silicone cover I got from Amazon and the same are on eBay too.
It is more like a bumper. But I sure saved my new PRS-T1 the other day. I had it in my hands, bent over to hook the USB cable up to the computer (concrete floor) and somehow the whole Reader flew out of my hand up in the air and in slow motion... I kept saying "Please land on the case", the whole thing ended up landing in the office chair. I have noticed the silicone cover really keeps it from sliding in strange ways that I read. I can easily cross my legs and set it on the top leg, let go of it and read. I have set it on the arm of the sofa and it also sticks to it. It is not going to slide anywhere. |

I have a DecalGirl black matte skin (the design is "Haiku") applied to only the front. I'm very happy with this, as I read at home with a window behind me and the glare off the bezel drove me nuts.

The glare drove me nuts too so I installed a DecalGirl skin as well. I recommend a skin or a case that covers the bezel. Really it's a personal preference so hard to predict whether it will annoy you or not.

Ummmm..........
I must be deficient in some sensitive reading sense or something, 'cos I've never noticd any distraction, sunglasses being all I would use in bright sunlight.
Perhaps I concentrate on the words too much ? ![]() |

i've just posted another thread (sorry)
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=187557 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i was getting annoyed (like lots of people here) and i didnt want to take my machine apart, and being a jeweller, i have this; its like a rubber sandpaper: but because its in a block, its quite easy to be precise. I also covered the actual screen with some paper to catch any debris. anyway - it worked nicely for me, and you can use it to clean your jewellery too! http://www.cooksongold.com/Jewellery...prcode-999-CFK A medium/soft rubber block (approx. 3 1/4" x 2") impreg- nated with an abrasive. Can be cut into a required shape or used in the block form. Suitable for cleaning an area of a surface or simply to create a satin finish. |
