But how much work is that? Indexing books uses a lot of power, and can really drain the battery. I currently have around 1000 books on my Kindle, and haven't noticed any detectable shortening of the battery life as the number of books has grown.

And it does imply a full directory lookup of the documents folder, and, as we all know, disk I/O is expensive, even on a flash drive
![]() If you happen to have an empty kindle next to a Kindle with ~1K items, the slight difference in reactivity on wakeup is noticeable, especially in certain parts of the UI (collections, notes). And if you check the CPU usage with top/htop, you'll notice that it'll churn @ 100% CPU for quite a while, compared to the 'empty' kindle. Last edited by NiLuJe; 06-09-2012 at 01:10 PM. |

Unless you changed the password, default passwords use a DES hash, which only uses the first 8 characters (fionaXXX), but you can type more than 8 if you want when logging in and and the extra characters will be ignored. When you change a password, it uses a salted MD5 hash, which is much more secure and uses all the characters typed. Try logging in as framework:mario, and then to "cat /etc/shadow" and report the contents of that text file so we can crack the password with John the Ripper. The "fiona wordlist" is in the Index Tools wiki (linked to the Master Index sticky thread). Although it seems unlikely that amazon would change a password and nobody else reported that problem (so far), it would be interesting to find out what the new password is. It should be safe to share your shadow file contents, but if you wish to, you can PM it to me... P.S. The framework login is VERY limited, and cannot do much that is useful besides displaying the shadow file. |

Hello again,
Knows somebody where are the config files stored? I mean config file (e.g.) for Wifi, systemsetups (my kindle-account, pagerefresh-setting, etc). |
