I have not spanked my child since he was 2. He is almost 9 now. There are many different and effective ways to discipline a child. For him, he would rather be spanked then loose his Xbox and Netflix. The point is to discipline your own children, the method will vary pending the child and the family.

Getting back on topic...

i think singapore employs more of a shock value. i know my cousin does. he's married and lives in the US (he married a girl from here though), and he usually just touches his belt whenever his son misbehaves, and the kid gets the message.

my grandma used to use bamboo sticks to discipline my mom and her siblings.

OKAAAAAY, back to the topic. i have water in my cup. just finished having dinner, and i am really full. a relative came by earlier and dropped off a bunch of sticky rice cakes with sugar sauce.

I was never spanked, time outs were very effective. I have no intention of using physical force on my child. But that is me.

We had one family in the area whose children were late to school over 200 times. The school district sued them but ended up dropping the charges. I saw the father interviewed. They asked him I he would be better getting his kids to school on time and he said probably not, he is an imperfect human. They live half a mile from the school.

I play softball with a family who decided to home school their little terror after he was suspended at the age of six. He threatened to kill another child. His father was laughing while telling the story because clearly it was ludicrous that his six year old meant to kill anyone. And it was better for the kids travel hockey team if he were home schooled.

(sigh)

I thought the move to Thailand was a new thing. Good luck but be careful. I read enough newspapers to know that Southern Thailand has its fair share of unhappy people.

I know many American ex pats move because of finances not a desire to live in a foreign land. So they want the US in Mexico.

Decaff Caramel Latte (Costa Coffee) was recently on my cup, as we took my visiting Mum out for a quick bit of retail therapy.

My Aunt once threatened my Dad (her brother) with the police if he didn't stop hitting me. Nevr did mi no hurm .

Actually, I have deep-rooted issues, and will never lift my hand to my kids as a result...

We moved to what was then a foreign country 8+ years ago. It took us 2 months from first thought to decision, two more months to find and buy a house, and four months after that to actually get moved completely. Total 8 months from seeing a travel article in the San Francisco Chronicle to move in. And while some might laugh and say Canada isn't a foreign country, it very much is. What is true is that we speak something recognizable to a person from the U.S. as English, though there are definite differences in both spelling and words. (I have a colour TV that I watch while reclining on my Chesterfield, use a serviette to wipe my hands at the table, and scrape my dishes into the garburator. And as an old person, I watch my fibre intake.)

Changing countries is both scary and exciting, but I haven't regretted the decision for even a moment. Of course, it doesn't hurt that I live in Paradise, and that I have a profession that allows me to work from home.

Fresh squeezed orange juice in my cup.

I never reached the point (nor did his mother) where I needed to physically hit my son while he was growing up. Being sent to his room, or not being allowed to attend some event was more than enough to keep him in line. Once I threatened to turn him into a frog, but I don't think he took me seriously. I should have done it...
He turned out pretty well.

Time for a glass or rum, and a good night's sleep!

Keemun. Got it down to 30 teas or so. I know about 12 will not be restocked once they are done.

Kitchen is in decent shape. There were enough surviving shelving pegs to put up one shelf and get the counters cleared. The glasses were moved to a smaller cabinet where they fit with plenty of room and there is a shelf empty below. Discovered five bags of rice to go with everything else. Hopefully having his stuff on more shallow shelves will help him see what he has and stop the rebuking of stuff.

Now eating some cookies a friend made for me with my tea and getting ready to play some silly games. Then off to return shelving pegs that are too big and do some grocery shopping. Then a shower thrown by my neighbor. And then hubby is home! Yeah!

I have spanked my kids once or twice. They seem to be still working.... but I cannot recommend it, some kids react to this, some other to that.

I moved to new countries, without knowing the language, twice, and learned the language actively upon arriving. The first time the integration was complete, this time it looks good but I think I need another year to fulfill it. We are invited regurlarly at people's (locals) house and have also contacts with expat, so I guess we are on the good way, although I feel much nearer to the locals than to the expats, mainly British and Dutch.
The culture is very understandable for me, many things are "normal" (things that the expats are either shocked or annoyed about) because I am French I guess, it is more diffictult for my German husband who is constantly jetting between both countries. He really needs a cultural immersion .

I am observing my kids in this imbroglio, and I often wonder if they feel French, or German, or if they will ever feel Spanish.

I want Cookies too.....!!!!!

Happy Sunday all! Coffee in the big black mug. And then it's time for some grocery shopping, kitchen cleaning, and hopefully some target shooting before the storms arrive tonight.

(@ProfCrash - have fun at the shower! And my kitchen so needs some shelving - mainly for the entirely too many small appliances we have accumulated...)

Keemun is always a good choice.

Here, I'm having Peet's Anniversary Breakfast Blend again, and getting ready to start a new book I agreed to write. What WAS I thinking? Sigh.

I learned Italian in 6 months when I studied in Milan. it was great but I enjoyed hanging out with Italians. And dating them.....

We have plenty of cookies if you want to drop by. But the plane flight might suck.
