New 'Calibre Style' Interface isn't working

Hi,

I am on a Mac running Lion (OS X 10.7.4) and just installed Calibre 0.8.55. When I go to preferences and change the look and feel to 'Calibre Style' user interface and restart Calibre, nothing changes. It's the same as always. I have uninstalled Calibre and all its preferences, and reinstalled, thinking I had a corrupt prefs file, but to no avail.

Is this feature not available on the Mac? Is there something else I can try?

No, it should work on OS X as well (it does for me). Try running console.app and see if any errors are printed out when you start calibre.

Also, I have two different machines, both Macs running Lion, and both machines exhibit this same behavior. I change it to 'Calibre style', restart, and it changes nothing. But when I go back into preferences, look & feel, it shows 'Calibre style' as the user interface, although it's still stuck on system interface. Again, happening on both of my macs.

Does the version number at the bottom of the main calibre window have a * next to it?

No, it does not have a *.

I think the difference between the "old style" and "Calibre style" is very subtle, because I don't notice much difference between then on my Windows 7 box either. The tag browser icons seem a bit smaller is all i can notice.

It is subtle. I haven't tried with Windows, but under Linux, the scrollbar was the first thing I noticed that was different. Bar across the top (Name, Author, Date, etc) has some subtle changes and there are others. I *think* the "Yes", "No", "View Log" popup has yes and no in different places. I kind of like the changes.

Hmm, I was expecting a big change, as shown in the screenshot from macupdate:

My icons look nothing like that. Are these just custom icons and not the 'Calibre Style'? Maybe that's the issue.

Most of the changes appear to be in the Tag Browser and Metadata Edit areas.

Yes, the changes are very subtle. I tried to keep them at a minimum to not disrupt people's old habits. The idea is just to make the interface a little more sophisticated looking, with the use of gradients, highlighting, rounded corners and so on.

@Fanchee: that screenshot is from a very old calibre version. You know you are seeing the new style if moving the mouse over the entries in the book list cause the current cell to be highlighted.
