I'm still reading that it's okay to delete DRM for personal use in order to read the material on an available format, so to speak.

Tor is only publishing it in the US and Canada. He has a different publisher in the US and no direct publisher in Australia/New Zealand

I looked at Scalzi's Whatever site and see what you mean.

I've not read any of his books before, but I see that there are a number of his titles available in different formats in Aus.

Does Audible even have a mechanism in place to offer books without DRM? I don't think I've ever seen/heard of one.

Not sure. Possibly, but I just sent a note to the redshirtsdrm email address, where you are supposed to send your receipt if you get a DRMed ebook so they can send you a non-DRM version, and asked if the offer applies to the audiobook as well.
