Firmware Update Kindle NT firmware 4.1 impressions?

Hello,

I just updated my system from 4.0.1 to 4.1.0, I have uninstalled the things I have done to get the own screensaver things and now I found this post about the trick to update without loosing the feature of own screensavers.
Since yesterday to create a .assets file in the system directory is totally useless because it will be deleted as soon as I connect to wifi, and, of course, the screensavers I have copied doesn't shown up.
So I tried the trick above and it doesn't work if you have already updated to 4.1.0.

I see what you mean now, it is kind of annoying. I sent an email to them to give feedback on this change. If enough users do it maybe they'll switch it back in firmware 4.1.1 ? :-)

One can only hope they listen. It was silly for them to remove it instead of change the wording. Now if there was a shortcut we could use to toggle airplane mode that would make it easier.

I'm just relieved the font hack still works. The new improved fonts are a joke. They could of easily added more weight to them but I don't think they did much to them at all. It did seem like they changed the word spacing more than the contrast to me.

What aggravates me is that with each new Kindle we might get newer technology but unfortunately we seem to be getting fewer of the features we have long had. I'm also angry that few reader manufacturers seem to listen to their customers' requests. Probably the most requested feature from eInk users is "GIVE US MORE FONTS"! Some manufacturers have done this to various degrees, but Amazon continues to think we are happy with the three original fonts. And one more gripe, what is up with all these different interfaces? I understand that eInk models are physically different from one another and that they have a different OS than the Fire, but geez each one is way too unique. Amazon should pull their head out of their corporate fat a$$ and at least try to make the interfaces and feature sets for the K4, K5, K6, and various OS apps similar. And get Whispersync working like it was promised it would a long time ago!

I don't know it's not that bad. Amazon likes to control the user experience, if they start allowing a bunch more fonts or user configurable fonts there's tons of new issues with customers complaining books aren't formatted properly or displaying differently etc. I look at it this way, when I purchase an actual book be it hardcover or paperback I can't control the font in the book. The Kindle for me is very readable and has good fonts. There are plenty of other eReaders so why stay frustrated with Amazon? Just switch to something more configurable.

This was a bad firmware update for me. i have the special offers K4. With the 4.0.1 i used to remove the ads in a few easy steps, but now, with the 4.1.0, the ads came back and the trick to remove them doesnt work anymore.

Go to the "Manage Your Kindle" page at Amazon. This will allow you to remove the ads.

Do you have any evidence to support that claim? I've never felt the need for more fonts personally. Don't forget that a KF8 book can have embedded fonts.

Personally, I'm happy with the 3 fonts I have. I can't see any advantages of more fonts, it isn't a M$ Word to have 1000 of them.

The disadvantages of the new firmware are that it seems the WiFi-signal is weaker as before and that the "airplane mode" can be handled only from the Settings menu. If they could move up the Settings-menu in the list it would be acceptible to me.

You're complaining that Amazon took away a hack ability to remove ads from an Ad-Kindle that you bought? This might be a silly question, but if you didn't want Ads on your Kindle, why didn't you just buy the non-advertising Kindle? It's been mentioned that you can remove the special offers from your amazon page by paying $30 (which essentially brings the price up to the non-ad version)

The only reason I need custom font is I have bad contrast on my K4. So I am grateful they didn't take away the hack that works for this in this update.

This go to settings to turn WiFi on and off is driving me crazy! I sync when I read to the furthest page then sync when I am done so my Fire and K3 will be on the same page. Having to go to settings each time is annoying and makes my Kindle experience less enjoyable.

and what are the advantage of Jailbreaking Kindle ?

You only need to do that operation to switch OFF wifi though. For example I've just pressed the menu button to select "sync to furthest page read" (with wifi off) & K4 has offered to turn it on for me which I accepted
