I just finished Craig Johnson's newest Walt Longmire book As The Crow Flies. I loved it. Now on to Eric Flint's 1635: The Eastern Front.

Finished reading Born To Run by Mercedes Lackey and Larry Dixon. It's urban fantasy with a car theme, and is in the same universe as a couple of other series by Ms. Lackey. It was a fun read, though there is some serious content here about abused children and runaways that is the underlying theme of this series in one way or another. But the subject is treated well, and none of the abuse is used to titillate, nor does she linger on it. She makes the point and moves on. I enjoyed the book, and wish more of the series were available as eBooks. (A second one is, as part of an eBook omnibus "The Chrome Borne", but that's it at this point.)

Actually, there's quite a lot more, almost all available as e-books. At some point they linked it up with Lackey's other elves/magic urban fantasies and now it's part of the entire "Elves on the Road Universe" which comprises the SERRAted Edge books, the Bedlam's Bard books, the Doubled Edge prequels, and the Diana Tregarde books. The other books in the SERRAted Edge can be found in The Otherworld omnibus, available on either of the Mercedes Lackey hardcover tie-in CDs at the Fifth Imperium. Read the books in that before tackling Chrome Circle in The Chrome Borne (which is chronologically 4th, and really kind of a letdown after a promising first 100 pages which then goes into WTF Idiot Ball Road Trip territory). The Doubled Edge is an Elizabethan historical prequel to the SERRAted Edge characters (which incidentally totally ignores the actual established stuff about those characters but is otherwise okay if you like elves-meddling-in-Tudor-politics stuff) and the 1st in series This Sceptre'd Isle is directly in the Baen Free Library and the rest can be found on the Invasion CD. Bedlam's Bard series starts with Knight of Ghosts and Shadows (which is quite good), though the series kind of progressively deteriorates as it goes along. 3rd book in series, Beyond World's End, which reboots the series with a new co-author, is available directly via the Baen Free Library. A rather good prequel featuring Ellen Guon's character Kayla is also in the BFL, Bedlam Boyz. Some of the SERRA characters guest-appear or are mentioned in the Bard books. There's also a multi-author anthology of shorts (varying quality) set in the EoTR universe, also on the Invasion CD. The Diana Tregarde books are published by Tor and with the exception of one novella in a collection, not available as e-books, which is a shame, since the first one was pretty good, the second was decent, and the 3rd one gives part of the backstory on Tannim. Also, you might see a listing for Stoned Souls in the SERRAted Edge series in some stores/bibliographies. Due to some sort of argument/drama with Baen and a case of rotating co-authors, this never got printed and may still not even be completely written. |

I finished Divergent and Insurgent a couple of days ago, pretty good books.
What are your thoughts on the "Dune" series? |

@ATDrake: Thanks for that. I forgot to look at 5th Imperium. Definitely it's a bit of a jump to Chrome Circle. I started it, and thought something didn't feel right.
I've read all these 15-20 years ago, when they first came out. And they definitely qualify as guilty pleasures, but I'm entitled! ![]() |

I'm currently reading Pulchritude by Ana Mardoll. I am rather enjoying it so far.

so i'd recommend the first 4. imo you if you don't mind a bit of open-endedness you can stop after god emperor, it ends on a decent enough note. however i'd only recommend the last 2 books as well as the more recent series' to a completest. |

I Am Not A Serial Killer by Dan Wells. Started it today, read about 15% (Kindle), not bad so far.
Also, reading Clash of Kings, 56%. Its going kinda slow. The plot I mean, too much descriptions. |

I've just finished my second of the Hugo nominees, Leviathan Wakes, which I thought was good but not great. A solid bit of space opera, but up for the Hugo? It makes me very concerned about the rest of the shortlist.
I'm starting Among Others next, and it better be good or I might vote for No Award. ![]() |

While I was away on holiday in the last couple of weeks I finished the whole of the 6-book "Starfire" series by Steve White and others, published by Baen. Excellent military SF. The books are published by Baen as two omnibus editions ("The Stars at War" and "The Stars at War II") and two standalone books ("Exodus" and "Extremis"). Highly recommended.
