Question e-Book reader question

Hi guys.

I've seached the forum but I've nearly got a headache by browsing the results

A simple question:

Is there a E-Book reader that has:
  1. - e-ink- preferably pearl
  2. - colour
  3. - the same screen size as a tablet - iPad - Galaxy Tab
  4. - Available in Europe

Many thanks !!!

There are no commercially available color e-ink readers, as far as I know. Pearl screens are black and white only. Large e-readers are few and far between. There is currently a thread on them here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=176516.

the ECTACO jetBook Color is a large screen (9.7") colour eInk device. The only one currently available, as far as I know, but I don't think it's available in the EU yet - only as imports from the US (or Russia?).

However, reviews have not been good.

Many thanks, susan_cassidy, I'll follow that thread.

Somehow I was hoping it would be possible to get the best of both worlds in one e-book reader. Oh well...

Many thanks, pdurrant

That review isn't certainly positive. I currently have an iPad with iBooks and it works perfectly. iBooks epubs rendering is, I believe, fantastic.

Only problem with the iPad is reading in sunlight.

First, you need to put background light to max, but when the iPad senses it's too hot, it will dim the display -actually throttling the display's light down.

I can't really explain how annoying it can be when you are in the middle of a book and are about to find out who the murder is and suddenly...your screen dims to a point where you can't read anything

There are some alternative technologies to color eInk on the horizon, and probably improvements to colour eInk too.

* A frontlight on colour eInk would probably eliminate the contrast problem while retaining daylight readability
* Mirasol technology has just shipped (with a terrible viewing angle), but will hopefully improve and ship in more products
*LiquaVista still looks like a really interesting technology that should be in production 'real soon now'.

So while I don't think your ideal device is available yet, hopefully it will appear in the next couple of years.

The murderer is always the butler.
